    New Dr likes guns

Due to new insurance, I had to change doctors. Today was my second visit so I thought I best come clean and discuss with my new doctor the fact that I conceal carry.

    Conversation went something like this:

Me: Doc, I have something that I feel I need to discuss with you. If we are to enter into a relationship here, then there are some things you need to know and some things I need to know if we are to continue.

Doc: Okay, whats on your mind?

Me: I feel it my duty to inform you that I have a conceal carry permit, infact a couple of them, and I am always armed, even now. I feel the need to inform you of this and if you have a problem with it, then I need to move on and seek another physician.

Doc: Why do you feel you need to carry a gun?

Me: Why do people have spare tires? Why do you have fire extingrishers in the building?

Doc: I see your point. No, it does not bother me at all that you are armed. If the goverment says your okay to carry one, then it's okay with me. One of my nurses was involved in a office shooting a few years ago and a deputy was killed. The S.O. brought a prisoner in for an exam and he got ahold of the escorting deputies gun and killed him and a patient. My nurse saw the whole thing and she admits that it could have been prevented.

Me: I remember when that happened. I can not risk being in a situation where I can not defend myself. How do I know that you folks here in the building have not mad a patient mad or the spouse of one of your nurses wont come here to seek revenge. I just wanted you to know that I carry and if I ever have to disrobe, the gun will be concealed and no one ever has to know, except you and I.

Doc: Agreed. As long as you have control of it and keep it covered up, I have no problem at all.

We then went into why I was there..BP is down from last visit and we talked meds etc..all in all, I was very pleased with his demeanor and I think he was impressed with my openess and frankness of the matter. I only wish y'all out there had a doctor that was this cool to deal with!

That is the way it ought to be!! My doctor and his nurses are all pistol owners.

    Cool

A very poor reason to evaluate the competence of your new doctor. Personally, I have chosen my Drs for their medical expertese not their political, religious or gun views. That said after four heart attacks and two heart bypasses.

He knows I carry, since in the background check, the Sheriff's office asked him for a report. Further, both Drs are in a large (four stories) medical building which does prohibit guns. I respect the owners of the building's wishes. After all, it's their building.

Q: "Why do you carry a gun?"

A: "Because a cop is too heavy."

It’s so much easier now days, to "Love and honor" my wife, when she is armed, and shoots a better group than I do. (Till death do us part, eh?)

“The way you get shot by a concealed weapons permit holder is, you point a gun at him,” the Sheriff said.

That is fantastic! I think the direct approach is always the best. Be honest and up front and 9 times out of 10, it will go well!

Well done with the new Doc!

Please help me understand why you felt the need to "come clean."
Maybe I'm a bit slow tonight, but I can't get my head around that one.

easy..didnt wan't him to go thru any surprises if it ever came up that he needed to poke or prod on me while packing...his place of business and since it's likely that we may get a little "personal", I thought it best to inform him..last thing I would like to see is my personal physician freak out in a closed up room to which I could be nekkid in!

During my physical the nurse gives me a gurney to put on. I undress in the privacy of the exam room leaving my weapon folded in my clothes on the chair next to me.
Doc does his thing, he leaves, I dress.
So far so good, living in Mass I tell no one.
Glad it worked out for you and your gun friendly Doc.

Ah, see during my doc stuff whatever I'm wearing when he comes in is when I get poked, prodded, and so on. If I neeed x-rays is when I need to get dressed, so I suppose it kinda makes sense to leave it in the car or tell the doc
