I took the gooey, messy magazine to the range yesterday. (shameless plug?)


I fired the magazine and chambered round with no problems:


I pulled the drink mix and candy off of the spare magazine, you can see all the residue. I put it into my gun


the green stuff on the floor is fire extinguisher dry chemical, we had a small fire that morning. Unburned gunpowder builds up in the soundproofing.

Continued:
A little touch to the back of the slide closed it. First round fired and cycled the gun. Second round fired and cycled.



The third round needed a little push again:


I emptied the magazine with no more problems except for missing the X twice.


The candy and tea went where they belong, note the extinguisher.


Now people suggested everything from WD40 to boiling water to clean the gun and mag. Hoppes #9 and Gun Scrubber didn't touch the mess! I was totally surprised at that. Fortunately foaming bore cleaner did fine:


Lessons learned, it would have worked if I had needed it. A simple malfunction drill solved the problem. As usual, your comments, criticisms, jokes, questions, and input are welcome.

That was undoubtedly a ballistic anomaly due to the candy coated bullets, no fault of the shooter whatsoever.

i'd bet my paycheck that the two rounds that went high were the first and third from the "candy mag". i've noticed similar when soldiers(including myself) have to perform "IA" the round tends to go a little high. not too bad at pistol rang but at 300M your not likely to hit the ivan.

You're a better man than me, I would have never loaded that mag in any of my pistols!!

I did it for science. It was worth it for the knowledge.... And I needed to shoot and rotate the ammo anyway.

That was a great report. I'm going to consider buying foaming bore cleaner when my cleaning supplier start to get low.
