Theater Code of Conduct Bans Guns, Backfires on Theater

So I went to see a movie with my wife the other day. I went to the automated ticket dispenser, bought my tickets and we went to have dinner at a restaurant next door.

In WA no guns signs have no legal consequences unless I refuse to leave when asked (then it's trespassing). But as a matter of practice, I don't frequent locations that have no guns signs posted. This Theater is a rare exception, they have no signs on the door, so I drive out of the way to get to it.

Long story short, we get some bad service at the restaurant and its taking forever. So I walk over to refund my tickets. I get to the box office at 29 minutes to show time. They inform me I can't get my money back, it's too close to show time (claiming a 30 minute window). When I insist, they point to a placard that has the Theater's Code of Conduct on it. It is long and verbose, and the font is no more than about 18pt.

As I read through it, it mentions that if you violate the code of conduct you can be asked to leave and you'll be refunded.

Then I read that there's no guns allowed.

I took off my jacket, exposing my firearm and stepped into the lobby and stood next to the manager in the customer service area. I had my refund about five minutes later when I was asked to leave.

    Hwah Hwah. Jerks.

I will not promote, nor condone this behavior. That said, it is funny!

    Thumbs up

WOW!! That's gutsy. So how did you go about ensuring that they understood that you wanted to violate their code of conduct and not threaten them with your gun?

Because I'm always extremely polite, and the person that I had asked for a refund from twice was not present. I just loafed around in the lobby area where I was sure to be seen by the Manager who always hangs out there. I was careful to have no pattern of behavior that could bite me in the butt.

Nice move. Open carry is legal in WA, so as long as it remains in the holster and you aren't exposing it in a threatening way, it's perfectly fine.

I had to think about it for a minute or two. I hadn't been angry or mean to the gal at the window... so I figured going inside carrying openly would be safe.

In a way it's an example of how being nice gets you farther. If I'd been an ass I might have stepped over the line by changing to OC.

    Smooth.

I have a hard time conforming my conduct to the "being nice gets you farther," mode, but I know from lots of experience that you catch more bees with honey.

Brilliant move, you gave me a smile.

    Work it baby, yeah.

    Gotta love that.
But if you are authorized to carry a weapon, and you walk outside without it, just take a deep breath, and say this to yourself...
