Is my GA permit valid after moving out of state?

I lived in Georgia until 2 years ago and I will be returning to visit family soon. My current state does not have reciprocity with Georgia. My Georgia Firearms License is valid thru 2011 and I still have it. I am still me, and I am still within the date parameters, but as I am no longer a GA citizen, and my current address is different, is the license invalid?

I know in Tx I'm required to notify when I change my address and I would bet 100-1 that a resident license is invalid once you move to a new physical residence out of state unless you are active duty military

Georgia Firearms License is only valid for Georgia Residents. It became useless the day you moved out of state.

    You need a FL License

Get a FL permit and never worry about it again.

Thanks for the replies. I was pretty sure it was invalid, but I wanted a second opinion.

I know when I moved here to Richmond from Oklahoma, my Oklahoma permit became invalid once I established residence here in VA. I would assume most states are the same.

Your GA permit is valid until it expires regardless of whether you move out of state. This is taken directly from the Official Code of Georgia O.C.G.A. 16-11-129 (pertinent section only):

"Such license or renewal license shall authorize that person to carry any weapon in any county of this state notwithstanding any change in that person's county of residence or state of domicile."

    I think that's pretty clear.

Since this thread is just shy of 5 years old he probably has gotten his CHL in his state of residence by now. May even be up for renewal.

I would bet on your GA permit being invalid. Each state has different laws on accepting out-of-state permits for folks who move in. In FL, your GA permit would be valid for 90 days after you establish residency (Get FL DL, register to vote, register vehicles, etc.). That gives you time to get a FL CWFL. I cannot say what VA does, but once you established residency there, your "resident" GA permit is in all likelihood invalid unless VA has a grace period like FL.

In a word; it's no good anymore.
You can get a NH non-resident permit for $100.00. You just need to send a copy of your current VA permit with the application. No fingerprints necessary. Mine took 2 weeks, mailbox to mailbox. GA does honor them.
Also, in GA, if you stay in your car, you can carry. ("assuming" you are legal otherwise, of course.) Check handgunlaw for the details.
