Ok, so there is a no firearms allowed sign on a business in my town...

Now, I go here quite often, once a month and usually spend between $50 and $100 there..

They have always had the sign up, and I have always disarmed going in there, however I re-read the state gun laws, and it comes to shove that their sign does not hold any legal weight.

In SC, a no concealable weapons allowed sign must be within certain dimensions, with text a certain color and height, and the gun must be in a certain size circle with the line crossing it going a certain way...

They violated at least one of these...

So technically speaking, I could carry into this business, and the worst thing that could happen is for them to ask me to leave - and I would have to leave or face trespass charges, right?

Regaurdless of the legality of the sign I would NOT patron that store! If they don't want guns in the store, give 'em what they want! I would take my business elswhere!

In SC, if the sign does not meet the requirements it does not count as official notice. Therefor, you are correct; if they spot you, you are required to leave. Don't tell them their sign doesn't meet requirements; they might change it.

Some people choose to honor the intent of the sign. I don't. I am requried to know the law-so should everyone else. If I'm ever asked to leave, I will.

Well, its to pay my water bill - lol... So, I kind of have to...

They have me on a cash only basis too, so I have to go there, maybe I will just park my land rover on the place where they turn it off and write them a letter :-)

If their sign really isn't legal, and you're carrying concealed, nobody is going to know, so you should be fine. I'm pretty sure any business can ask you to leave for any reason though.

Yes, I am extremely careful how I carry, and it is always concealed to the best of my ability.

Yep, that's the way I see it. Tx is the same way, the sign must meet certain requirements or it's not valid.

But, do you want to patronize a business that wants to deprive you of your right to carry? I wouldn't.

Join Grass Roots and find out how they are going about getting the signs taken down.

    Mail your payment.

Im hopeful that a bill being introduced this year will hold posting businesses liable for attracting the criminals when something bad goes down.

FWIW, your OP was correct. If the sign doesnt meet the regs then it holds no value. Be very careful abut the measurements. We just had a big discussion on it at Grass Roots and its not what you may think as far as the measurements.

They violated the text color section of the law.

I havent had a chance to measure it, but that would look kind of suspicious...

EDIT: I am a member of the SC Grassroots, and NRA :-)

I'm sure he would rather them deprive him of his right to carry rather than of his "right" to fresh drinking water.

Seriously though... The place isn't publicly owned is it? Around here, the county owns the h20, and the building we go into to pay the bill is also publicly owned. It doesn't matter what kind of sign they have, it's illegal to CCW in there.

    Cool

Respect the company's wishes. Most areas I've lived in, the water company is a municiple utility agency. Therefore, it's government (city) property which usually is off bounds to carrying. Mail your payment. Don't give the antis any more ammunition.

Might be true where you live and might not where the OP lives in SC. I live in VA and I can carry in a state level on down government building with the exception of a courthouse. So paying my water bill while open carrying or concealed carrying is not an issue.
