It really dont have to make sense to you.
    A lot of statutes dont.
If you think you have not broken the law,
Did the kind officer give you three options?
    Take it to court.
And look on the ticket there is a statue# in the offence
    block of the ticket.
Then go to myflorida.com and look it up.

Must have been a school or construction zone.

Some of you have talked about doing 15 or more over.

If all the LEO does is give you a ticket for speeding, you should count your blessings.

He/she can also write you up for reckless, or at the very least carless. And if you think the ticket price is high wait until your insurance company get a hold of that.

When I was a high school kid I use to get tickets all the time, but today I enjoy low insurance rates, and therefore I watch my speed.
19 miles over... 49 on a posted 30. Was talking on the hands free....
I think the fines went up.

My biggest fear is for some reason to be stopped by an overzealous police officer in a school zone for whatever reason.... and being carted off to the gulag. You can't always avoid these zones... and do I ever try. This is a potential weak spot as I see it in my CCP travels.
If you have a carry license, you are not effected by this federal law.

There is no such thing as a quota for tickets. Don't do the crime, you won't pay the fine. In the future I won't be anal about tickets, and if I meet a law abiding citizen toting their preferred choice of insurance, I'll chat them up and go easy on them if possible. But I'll always be keeping in mind that anybody is capable of anything.

Glock45, you might want to talk to an attorney and see about reducing that ticket to defective equipment.

Sounds like you need a good radar detector too.

BamaSteve, and Bprepared. In my department it is a standard rule "Always write the reason for the stop." If the officer stopped you and nothing else was wrong, then you would have gotten a written warnimg, or told just be more careful.

Like another member said it all depends on the cop and his mood. $300 is an expensive speeding ticket.

I was doing 41 over one time about 2 or 3 years ago and I think I got a $100 dollar fine for it.

    Laws are laws I guess.
