Va. Gun Tax Legislation Heads to Senate Floor! NRA-ILA ACTION ALERT
Today, the Senate Finance Committee approved Senate Bill 1166. SB1166 now heads to the full Senate for its consideration.
Sponsored by State Senator John Watkins (R-10), this bill would increase the gun tax charged by the Virginia State Police to run the mandatory background check from $2 to $5, a 150% increase for Virginia residents. For non-state residents, the legislation mandates an increase of 60%, from $5 to $8.
It is imperative that you contact your State Senator TODAY at their Richmond office at (800) 889-0229 or (804) 698-1990 and ask them to oppose Senate Bill 1166. More contact information for your State Senator can be found by clicking here.

Wow, I pay $10. I feel like I am getting robbed.
I will support gun control when you can guarantee all guns are removed from this planet. That includes military and law enforcement. When you can accomplish that, then I will be the last person to lay down my gun. Then I will carry the weapon that replaces the gun.

You should.

Hhahhahaa I trump all of you, Try $200 every 10 years in New Zealand and I can only own 12 Guns.
In saying that there is no cost to buy, you prove yourself to be a good guy once and then you only need to show a current licence each time you buy.

MI charged me $5 for the background check when I bought my first pistol about 2 years ago. I just bought a new xd last week of Jan 09 and I wasn't charged a fee. New law? or maybe the person thats does the permits (my sister) forgot to charge me?

Good luck on this. In the future, could you specify in the title that this is for VA?

Good luck! These things go in waves sometimes, so hopefully you can nip it in the bud, and make it less likely that we'll have to fight similar legislation in the future. My fingers are crossed.

We pay too much in taxes and fees. Lets stimulate the economy by not having to give all of our money away.

I have never been charged for a background check. I don't know anyone of my friends in Michigan, that has been charged for a background check.

I've purchased numerous guns in VA and only recently have I seen the sales receipt break out the cost of the background check. I'm wondering if all this time the cost had already been added to the price of the gun?
