You must inform LEO - Texas

Texas Concealed Handgun Laws required CCW to informed any LEO's that you are carry. Most common that you need to let LEO know ASAP if you get pulled over by LEO, but do you have to inform LEO if,

    1. If you go to public restroom using urinal booth, LEO showed up next to you at the urinal booth must inform LEO ?

    2. You in a line to pay for pre-paid gas or snack, LEO stand behind you must inform LEO ?

    3. Resturant hired LEO in uniform at the entrance door must inform LEO ?

    4. Walk passed by LEO must inform LEO ?

    5. Waitress take us diner table, LEO was already at the table next to us must inform LEO ?

    6. Walking toward to LEO ask for help (map of direction) must inform LEO ?

I have bunch of question going on and on. Does it required to inform LEO no matter what or in kind of type of situation beside during traffic stops.

Look fowarding to hear your opinion.

    Thanks

    1. No
    2. No
    3. No
    4. No
    5. No
    6. I would say probably not.

I believe what the intent of the law is, that when you are dealing with a LEO in performance of his duty, you must inform. Otherwise if you see a LEO at the other end of a store you would have to make your way over to him and inform him.

I was taught that you must inform if ever asked for identification...

per law, you only have to inform if a LEO or magistrate asks for you to ID yourself while you have your handgun with you:

    TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE
Sec. 411.205. DISPLAYING LICENSE; PENALTY. (a) If a license holder is carrying a handgun on or about the license holder's person when a magistrate or a peace officer demands that the license holder display identification, the license holder shall display both the license holder's driver's license or identification certificate issued by the department and the license holder's handgun license. A person who fails or refuses to display the license and identification as required by this subsection is subject to suspension of the person's license as provided by Section 411.187.

    (b) A person commits an offense if the person fails or refuses to display the license and identification as required by Subsection (a) after previously having had the person's license suspended for a violation of that subsection. An offense under this subsection is a Class B misdemeanor.

bottom line, if they ask for your ID while you are carrying you have to show your DL and CHL, otherwise go about your business

I can imagine where the conversation would go if you turned to the cop at the urinal next to you and said "Hey, I'm packin', but it's okay, I have a permit". Of course it would never happen, cops always use stalls.

Seriously, you only have to inform if the LEO approaches you on "business". You definitely DON'T want to start going up to every cop you see and telling him you're carrying. Some things are better left unsaid until you have to.

Yes, but I believe you are a minority in that fact.

Then again, you are in Texas, so who knows.

maybe, maybe not, I do know that all my partners that work my side of town use the urinals, not an issue; and almost all our dept is pro-gun and won't be alarmed at a person w/CHL

however, for non-leo I can see where the urinal would be more effective at keeping concealed, I did this myself before becoming LEO

When a LEO runs your drivers license it will show you have a carry permit. At least in Dallas it does.

It would suck if I had to do that... I run into LEO all the time as a VOL FF/ EMT. Have LEO in the Department, Run our POVs on first responder calls and even when down the station LEO stop in to use the Bathrooms (ours are clean and LEO have the door codes). If I had to inform every time that would get annoying really quick.

To answer your question, thankfully NO.
