Unlicensed carry on grounds of Apartment Complex in Texas??

Hey guys, I'm waiting on my permit to get here and was wondering what the laws were concerning carrying walking around an apartment complex....I've tried searching online here and everywhere else for that matter. I know you can carry in your car, and your home, and walking to your car from your home, and vis-versa. But, what if I want to carry when I take out the trash or walk the dog?? Not sure if my apartment parking lot/grassy areas would count as "my property".... Anyone ever looked into this before.
There are sometimes some shady looking people out at night as I get home pretty late in the evening from studying and then need to take the dog out.

IANAL, but your apartment complex parking lot isn't your property, though it is private property, so suspect that the law doesn't permit you to CC without a CHL. It's (likely) no different than the parking lot of your local Sears store.

I agree with you about apartments; plenty of shady characters.

I agree with Johnhenry. I'm not a lawyer either, but I doubt very seriuosly that the apartment complex would be considered "your property". Ask your local LEO, I've found mine to be very helpful here in the DFW area.

only inside your apartment. You cannot carry on you when you step out of your apartment. The only thing you can carry is directly to your vehicle and to shooting range. I know its sucks waiting on CHL so am I

Make sure you dont have firearm on you in the vehicle. You can put it under seat, glove box, console.

I know it is frustrating waiting for the permit, but don't risk it without one. I always try to err on the conservative side of any legal theory and you can bet that your rent only provides you immunity in your apartment as that is your domicile, not the parking lot or common grounds. Sure you may not get caught or noticed carrying prior to receipt of the permit but if you are, you can kiss it goodbye and that is not worth it IMHO.

Only legal concealed is straight to and from your residence and vehicle, any side trips to the garbage can etc. and you are breaking the law.once inside vehicle you must conceal inside the car but not on your person
