    The wait... :(

Applied yesterday after having my appointment for 5 weeks... to find out it takes about 10 more weeks for the background check and the sheriff to approve the CCW's.

What to do while I wait?

Get a good pistol, a good IWB holster and practice drawing from concealment (unloaded of course). Also, put this forum on top of your favorites list and listen to the people on here. They know alot and are more than willing to share their knowledge with people who are willing to learn. And welcome!

Welcome halfbyte, use this time to make sure you are fully aware of any laws you have restricting your carry. Practice your concealment (OC is not legal or your bag) and practice your draw. Read DC.com daily.

Those are what I did while I waited.

Welcome to the forum. Do lots of reading, practice carrying concealed at home and lots of shooting.

shoot until you are sick of shooting...then shoot some more. You are responsible for where your bullets end up, do everything that you can to minimize the risk to any innocents.

I have an XD40 4" and soon to have an XD40 3" (if they ever come back in stock). I have a Crossbread holster I just bought. And a case of bullets to use, :)

I plan on going through the case; been a hunter and around guns for quite a while. Just finally went and paid for the CCW; no idea it took that long but was very easy to do. Just fingerprints, money and a signature.

Practice your concealment, practice your draw from concealment, (unloaded) and shoot A LOT. You'll enjoy the wait lots more if you get on DC.com everyday!

Hey fourbits, I got my permit 2 weeks ago, took 65 days. I think the CBI is backed up the sheriff turns them around as quick as he can.

Like others have said practice, read and prepare yourself.

Get your weapon an your holsters together and start to break em in. Wear em wherever it is legal to carry (like at home). You'll be well on your way.

I found that ordering the holsters and such during the wait time put the focus on the holsters and not on the permit.

The wait---- well at bed time instead of counting count bullets, that'll get you to sleep a lot faster.

    All good ideas above.

As a n00b to cc, and even pistols, I trained at the range, practiced at home (unloaded), bought some gear, and hung out on this website like it was porn.

    ...but that's just me....

I had 102 days to figure this out. I found the best way to pass time was to buy accessories, online. I bought spare mags, holsters, a belt, and some other gun related stuff. It took about a week for each to be delivered, so I would order them one at a time. This gave me short term things to focus on, with continuing satisfaction along the way. It all came together with the best delivery of all this morning, my CWP. Hang in there.
