got my AZ CCW in the mail today

38 days after sending in the paperwork. WahU! Time to go do the wally world walk.

Looking for advice on a couple of things.

    1. Carrying around a rough housing 3 year old who is not near mature enough to learn about guns.

    2. My wife doesn't like me carrying unless we are going to places that are kind of ghetto (we live in phoenix so that's about 3/4 of the city at least), however bad things can and do happen everywhere. Anyone got advice on how to convince the wife? She tolerates guns, but doesn't care much to have them around. I think she's starting to come around though.

Congratulations! I've never been one to rough house, so no help from me there. Always carry - bad guys come to you now, you don't have to go to them.

What worked for my wife was to let her talk to the local police officer that was at the ccw class. She had no idea how much crime was actually happening around us close to home. That did the trick.

If your wife can't tell your carrying, you have PASSED THE test. Now go to Wally World and get rid of the jitters.

Invest in a good holster! Depending on how much rough housing something with a positive retention device. I use a Tucker, and have never had a problem, but like some of the others here I don't rough house too much with my 10 and 8 year olds.

As too the wife, I like the comment about meeting with the LEO. You never know, where crime might happen. If I know there is going to be a problem--I don't go there! That is why we carry. To protect ourselves and those around us, should the need arise.

You'll never be able to predict when or if that need will arise. Always carry if legal!

    Part 1 = I don't know.

Part 2 = Carry anyway, she'll get over it. Criminals come out of the ghetto to do crime.....that's where the money is.

    go here:
    National Sex Offender Registry
type in your zip code and show your wife the map. That should help her understand.

Read your wife articles from Civilian Gun Self-Defense Blog. I did that for about six months. Not as explicit evangelizing, but as "oh man, this guy in (where ever) had a guy break into his house... good thing he had a gun...."

My city also does GIS crime mapping. You can get a map online from the police web site showing where crimes have been committed, and at what time of day. Realizing that assaults happen where you work/live, at the same time as you're normally out, really wakes you up.

Congrats on the arrival of your permit! I'll echo what others have posted. Always carry. You never know when you'll need your gun to protect yourself. Definitely buy one or two quality make holsters. Both my primary CC are quality leather holsters. Don't go cheap on you primary holsters.
