Reminds me of an episode of O'Reily Factor where they were showing how some clown took the names and address' of everyone who donated political contributions to organizations supporting Prop8 in California - then used Google maps to create a map of thumbnails of everyone's information available on the web.
In the days when encounters with nutjobs seem that much more frequent, I can count a half dozen reasons why my neighbors or anyone across town has any business knowing I have a permit.
If you live in WV, you need to find that map or an article about that story and make sure your representative has a copy!
My wife's family lives in WV and I cannot carry there with my TX CCL. The reason seems to be that TX permit holders are not a part of public records, and WV's current law requires that police be able to access the records of permit holders at a traffic stop or etc. I would realy like this law to go through because it would likely allow me to carry there when visiting family--which is pretty often.
Maybe I didn't read the article appropriately - but isn't the bill about allowing the average Joe or antigunner Jane to request a list of permit holders though public records not LEO access? Or are you refering to the reciprocity part of the bill (that was where my eyes glazed over because it didn't apply to me)?
And another reason the public shouldn't know you carry:
Suppose you & your next door neighbor don't get along. One day you have a big argument over something. The neighbor, knowing that you carry, calls the sheriff and tells him that during the course of the argument, you brandished your gun [at him]. Now, it's his word against yours and the sheriff knows you do have a carry permit.
Go to right hand column for some interesting "stuff".
Looks like the bill to put CCW notations on DL's is dead. I can imagine going to MD or NJ unarmed and being stopped for a traffic violation, etc. and LEO's tearing my car apart, without apologies!
I guess I'll be going to the 2nd Amend March in DC Spring of 2010. Will leave CCW @ daughter's in VA. Most dangerous places in the country and I have to disarm:frown:
Firkin: SB378 may help with reciprocity for you, without the public record hassle!
It just can't understand why you have to have a permit for something that is supposed to be concealed then you tell everyone who has a permit.
What is the point of being concealed if the state tells everyone who you are?
