Visiting Indiana, anything I should know?

I'm going to Indiana over the weekend. I'm a Michigan resident with a CPL. I've seen that my permit is honored and read about the basic rules.

Just wondering if there's any capacity limits, or any quirky laws.

The reason I ask is because OH used to have a law about "in the open" when in a vehicle. Something I never would have known had I not heard from a friend at work.

    Thanks guys and gals!

Just do diligent research on the Indiana Laws at Handgunlaw.us , and promise to have a good time.

(Like mom always said, be home before the street lights come on.)
It’s so much easier now days, to "Love and honor" my wife, when she is armed, and shoots a better group than I do. (Till death do us part, eh?)

“The way you get shot by a concealed weapons permit holder is, you point a gun at him,” the Sheriff said.

I looked around on handgunlaw.us before I posted. Just making sure I didn't miss anything. I don't want to chance it.

    My son lives in IN...
If you can live with MI laws, IN is much better.
Do a search to be fully informed.

Good point, I realize that IN seems to be more gun friendly than MI. One thing though, we have reciprocity with damn near everybody (excluding the tree hugging hippie/socialist states)

I like to say Indiana has common sense gun laws. We're a pretty relax state in comparison to what a lot of you folks have to do. We have no rules on restaurants with bars, open carry is just fine, and we have castle doctrine on the books. Read up about Indiana but common sense goes a long way here.

I recently flew to Indiana with my USP. Fort Wayne has changed quite a bit since I was there, and the shooting range I went to was abysmal compared to what I'm used to. I find it funny that Indiana, a red state, is much less gun friendly then Minnesota (a very blue state). Maybe gun politics is making a move outside political parties? I can hope.

The only difference between here (MN) and there is the concealed part of the carry law. I'm pretty sure Michigan has the same deal, has to be concealed. MN does not. So long as you keep it concealed, and brush up on local laws, you should be good to go. When I lived in Indiana I don't remember any laws about having to have it open in the car or anything, and I don't think there are any. Any IN members PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong!

Hopefully it won't come up at all, you know what I'm saying?

Actually we recognize any resident permit. Reciprocity means they recognize ours. That is a smaller number.

I know it is a little off topic but Michigan is an open carry state. Residents do not need a permit to open carry. Non residents need a pistol permit from there home state to carry.

When you decide to get in a vehicle then things change, but that is another topic.

I would say that's on topic.

I did not know. I thought Michigan was like Indiana in that it had to be concealed, but I have been corrected. Thanks! Good to know that if I were a MI resident I can open carry in Detroit. Esp. if I lived near Hamtramack.

Actually, IN is also an open carry state, but you have to have a license to carry openly, similar to Georgia. It's not a concealed carry license, it's a license to carry (openly or concealed, the law does not specify). http://www.in.gov/legislative/ic/cod.../ar47/ch2.html
