    Car carry in NC

Question for you NC residents. (Tried the handgunaw.us, but the link to NC was down.)

My wife will be driving up to Charlotte tomorrow. She does not yet have a CWP. She wants to hit a range up there, as she'll be up there thru Sunday. Are there any guidelines she needs to be aware of while driving? Can it be loaded? In the open?

    Thanks in advance.

It can Be loaded, and it must be in plain view,as in not in a holster or not even as much as a square inch of it covered with anything , Or it can be locked in the trunk so as to not be readily accessible by her, if she has an SUV the fartherest most back part of the vehicle is considered the trunk.Good Luck.By the way if for some reason she is stopped, make sure the first thing she does is keep her hands on the wheel and inform LEO where the gun is.

As long as its in plain view its good. Dont cover it with anything like a coat or jacket etc..
When I open carry (been a while i mostly CC) in a vehicle I usually keep it in a small IWB holster and laying in the seat or on the console. As long as the officer dosnt have to "look" for it and can easily see it.

Good advice above. I used to leave it on the seat next to me. Plainly visible.

I woudl suggest hiding it when she is at her destination.

That would be my recommendation. Leave it on the passenger seat in plain view when in the vehicle. Remember it's an Open Carry State so she can carry on her belt once she gets out of the vehicle, just not in Schools, restraunts, or Federal buildings.

Tell her to have fun and enjoy!

Couple other points. Not limited to just fed employees but state as well. For some reason we don't care about our county employees to much. As far as casing it goes, NC laws are very cryptic. But, in a locked case, albeit in an SUV, the primary thing is that it's not accessabl to the driver or passengers. This is vague but it can be assumed that a softside case with a lock, the key somewhere reasonbly distant, will suffice. The real decision comes down to LEO followed by a judge. With normal conditions and behavior, should be no problem (but I'm a consultant and not a lawyer)
