concealed carry question
I have moved to TN and I am considering joining the state guard. I have a concealed carry permit. Can I carry my personal weapon while on duty? There may be times weapons are issued, but can I carry my own piece? I wanted to ask here before asking the state.

If you are going to be a member of the military, the government owns you, you don't own you, and you won't be allowed to carry your own weapon(s) on duty or on base. If they don't issue it to you, you can forget about it while on duty.

I have read that it may be necessary to supply your own weapon if needed, as this is a voluntary state guard.

Well, that may be a different story.

If you’re referring to the National Guard, you’ll be issued a weapon if they want you to have one.

Found a web site for what I think he is talking about:

Looking at that I'd say the standard military "no personal weapons" rule applies. But you can check anyway!
The Tennessee State Guard is an all-volunteer organization whose jurisdiction falls within the Military Department of the State of Tennessee. Our mission is to be a force-multiplier of the Tennessee Army National Guard
and to assist local communities during times of emergency or national disaster within the State of Tennessee.

The TN State Guard is NOT the State National Guard. It's voluntary, usually only deployed as an aid unit in State crisis.
Not sure about carry allowed or not. I know they don't issue weapons except in extreme emergency for security.
Just note: they are woefully underfunded. The Gov's office shows little support for them, and though they are well intentioned, are a bit rag tag, trying to "do without" much of the time.

I would ask the higher ups in that organization and not on a gun forum, that's my best advice!!

Many States have voluntary "State Guard or Militia" organizations, separate from the Army or Air National Guard.
It's called the "Home Guard" in Montana.

No personal weapons allowed in Tennessee State Guard. It is an Unarmed force multiplier for the Tennessee National Guard but under the command of the Governor of Tennessee through the Tennessee Adjutant General (TAG). It performs low level (unarmed) security and emergency functions (Disaster relief, etc.) It is not a militia but a regular military force organized under the Federal State Defense Force regs and overseen by the National Guard Bureau. If anybody has any real interest in it , email me at email@example.com and I will be happy to talk to you about it. No reason to tie up a nationwide forum with it.
