    Well I found me a .44

However its a Model 29-2 ... pinned and recessed ... too darn old for the stinking lock :D

Larry, I'll definitely bring it down for the next THR get together.

    Zunde, good find!

Much as I like my 629-6 - I still hope to find a dash two or something sometime - maybe I'll luck out at Tulsa.

May have said this before, but the lock takes mere minutes to deactivate. The information is on www.smith-wessonforum.com.

    They do not bother me.

I had a defective IL on my 629 MG in 44mag. It froze the cylinder. Sent back. S&W called said fixed offered no explanation. I said while its there go ahead and do a full master tune - the works, etc. in the Precision Custom Shop. I receive the gun back and the cylinder and action jam several rounds later. It had gone thru both the warranty repair gunsmiths and the PC Shop Master smiths and the IL still malfunctioned. Sent and returned again. IL MALFUNCTIONED! JAMMED! Returned and refused the gun back. I had a Mexican-Standoff with S&W and said I would never trust my life with this gun please replace. They refused and lied, blah, blah... and would send me the gun and I would refuse it. They eventually kept it for a year before I caved in and accepted it back. They had my $ and my gun so they were going to win and I couldn't afford to sue. I love Smith & Wesson revolvers, but will never buy another new one. I'm very saddened!

    Question Why buy

OK, I understand not liking the lock.

My question is this: why buy the gun????

I am not in love with the lock, but I like the guns well enough to buy ones with the lock.

Just the opinion of one old guy, but if the lock bothered me, I would do without the gun.

The ''why'' KC, for me anyways, is the gun's proposed use. In my case my 625-6 and 629-6 are both ''recreational'' guns. Not a problem.

If however I wanted a carry snub, I could well look for and find a ''pre-lock'' to satisfy my slight mistrust factor. So - my statement would not be so much -
if the lock bothered me, I would do without the gun
But - as the lock bothers me, find an earlier model
