Gun Dealer Hold Ups
Is anyone aware of any armed hold ups or attempted armed hold ups of a gun dealer or FFL holder either on or off premises? I need the info. for a judge who feels that this position is no more dangerous than any other type of business to grant a carry permit. (N.J., go figure!). Any articles or posting would be appreciated.
Thank You!

Welcome to the forum. No, I am not aware of any holdups at a gun store.
Robberies after dark? Sure. Hold ups while the purveyor is armed? Thats a laugh.

Well, there's this famous example. Not only did the idiot rob a gun ship, he walked right past the marked police car parked out front to do so.
On 3 February 1990, David Zaback attempted to hold up H&J Leather & Firearms Ltd., a gun shop located in Renton Highlands near Seattle, Washington. About 4:40 p.m. that day, he entered the crowded shop and announced his intention to rob it by telling everyone to put their hands on the counter and saying if anybody moved, he'd kill them. He then spotted a uniformed policeman having coffee with Wendall Woodall, the shop's owner. What happened next is less than clear in terms of who shot first, but there was an exchange of gunfire between David Zaback, the would-be robber; Timothy Lally, an 18-year veteran of the King County police force; and Danny Morris, one of the shop's clerks.
Zaback, who had fired three times, was shot three times in the chest and once in the arm. He died in the hospital about four hours after the shooting. No one else was injured during the incident, and no charges were subsequently laid against Lally or Morris.

We have just had a series of late night break-ins at gun shops (Hole In The Wall Gun Shop / Baker County, FL) resulting in large quantities of guns stolen but never a hold-up that I am aware of. That would be pretty brazen considering the target.
Pawn shops have been a target here in Florida fairly routinely over the years. I recall a pawn shop robbery just about three weeks ago in Jacksonville

There were several in the last year or so here in Central FL. Gun shop employees drew down on the bandits.

i guess that the Judge doesn't think that Jewelry stores are good targets either. He probably only thinks that Judges like himself should be armed. What a doofus. Do what you can to see him not get re-elected (if he is elected).
I Googled Gun Shop Robberies and got 237,000 hits, don't know if you want to wade through that.

Welcome to DC
In FL a while ago some knuckleheads drove a car through the front of a gun shop to burglarize it. The owner lived on the property and came out with a couple of full-auto guns, a shotgun, and a pistol or two. IIRC there was an Ayoob File about it.

CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Gun Shop Clerk Fires At Robbers - News Story - WFTV Orlando article with Video
Robbery of Orlando gun store results in shots fired - TheFiringLine Forums
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- An Orange County gun shop clerk stunned five men trying to steal guns right in front of him when he opened fire on them early Wednesday night. A surveillance camera captured the entire incident.
In spite of the gunfire, one of the five thieves got away after the theft at Rieg's Gun Shop on Orange Blossom Trail (see map). He was last seen running south on OBT. Detectives at the sheriff's office said they have several leads and they believe they know his identity.
Surveillance video from the gun shop and range shows the robbers putting their hands up in the air as the store clerk starts shooting at the suspects.
According to deputies, five men entered the gun shop and started to look at the guns in the case. One person reached over and grabbed a .45-caliber gun and a second person grabbed another gun. When the employee saw what was happening, he pulled out his own gun and started firing shots at the five suspects.
"The employee noticed something was happening and he felt threatened because one had a gun in his hand. The employee then shot at the one suspect that had the gun," said Cmdr. Rick Luckey of the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
The bullets ended up out in the street, but no one was injured. Four of the suspects stayed inside the store, because they were too scared to leave. Deputies said the fifth robber took off with a stolen gun and investigators have been unable to find him.
No charges were filed against the store clerk.

It takes a fool to hold up a gun shop during business hours. Gun shops are usually broken into after business hours.

Yep. ^^
Several have occurred in FL and several more nationwide even in small towns and relatively low crime states in the past two years alone, during the day amongst normal business operation hours and several have gotten away with it present and past...

When I think about it, I can't remember ever being in a gunshop anywhere where the employees weren't armed. I think it's the standard practice of the entire industry, at least in the free states.

Also there are quite a few stories of people committing suicide in the range itself. Who knows how crazy these people really are...they may open fire on others before taking there own life.

Here is another one for you just last month in the city of Chicago:
Police: Gun store clerk shoots robber
March 4, 2009 6:35 PM | 26 Comments
Waukegan police said a clerk at a guns-and-ammunition store appears to have shot a man who was trying to rob the establishment this afternoon.
Officers responded at about 1:45 p.m. to Mike Schrank's Smoke 'N Gun, 2010 Washington St., to a call of a person shot, according to a police news release.
There they found a man who had been shot twice in the chest and once in the leg, and a shop clerk who had a gun trained on him, the statement said.
Witnesses told investigators that the injured man went behind the counter and argued with the clerk.
The confrontation turned physical and the clerk pulled a handgun and shot the other man, witnesses said. During the struggle, the clerk also shot himself in the hand accidentally.
The man was taken first to Vista West Medical Center in Waukegan, then to Advocated Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was taken into surgery. The clerk was taken another local hospital for treatment, police said.
Police believe the man was trying to rob the store, the statement said.
In October a 20-year-old man who held up a Waukegan grocery with a pellet gun was shot and killed by a clerk who fired at him after the robbery, as he pedaled from the scene on a bicycle. A Lake County grand jury later declined to indict the store clerk in the killing.
