WA state is technically and open cary state, but do to the lack of knowledge and the general attitude of people in the state it's highly recomended that you don't. As far as the guns in the car, WA state allows you to CC in your car with a permit, last time I checked WA and AZ had recp. check hand WA State Licensing: Firearms
I have to concur with 769, while Washington State law is fairly gun friendly, it's people are not, especialy on the west side of the castcades. Come over to the east side and people are a little more friendly. I still have not had the courage to OC over hear and can only recal once in 15 years that I have seen someone else do it.
Your AZ permit is not honored by Washington. So in your vehicle your guns must be unloaded. You can carry an unloaded gun on your person in your vehicle, but it cannot be concealed on your person, which is kind of hard to do so I would recommend not carrying a gun on your person in your vehicle. The gun can be stored in your vehicle anywhere concealed or open. If you leave a gun in your vehicle it must be concealed and your vehicle must be locked, which is common sense anyway.Quote:

There is a summary of gun laws in a pamphlet in a sticky on the Washington forum at opencarry.org. There is one mistake in the pamphlet, though. The pamphlet states that a gun must be enclosed in a case to transport it in Washington without a CPL and that is not true. Google "RCW" and look at RCW Title 9 chapter 41. Everything is in there except for the law which states that long guns must remain unloaded in vehicles even with a CPL.
Everything I have stated is valid in Washington state only and does not cover transportation in states in between. You can either follow each states' laws in between or transport your firearms according to FOPA (18 USC 926a).
One more thing - there is a big argument about carrying a firearm on Washington State Ferries without a CPL. Is a ferry a vehicle or not? We haven't got a clear decision, so I would not carry a loaded firearm on a ferry without a CPL. I open carry on the ferries because I do have a CPL.

I disagree completely with the "highly recommended that you don't." There are plenty of us that open carry everywhere we go in Washington State and it isn't a problem the vast majority of the time. The time that it is a problem is due to LEO's attempting to coerce a person to conceal because of their personal views on open carry, not because of a legal issue.Quote:

Importation of "High Capacity" magzines for the various firearms you take with you, like your Glock or HK handgun, is a violation of CA law. I don't know the route you plan to take, but I just thought I'd give you a "head's up". Also, I don't believe AZ and NV have reciprocity.

Open carry is pretty safe even in Wester WA in rural areas but the bigger cities would not be a good idea. Any firearm is considered "concealed when inside a vehicle and a permit is required whether it is on your person or not so it is best to store it unloaded.
Some good info above, but to be totally clear:
No loaded long guns in vehicles in WA ever (means nothing in chamber, attached mag, or attached to the firearm)
No loaded handguns in a vehicle without valid CPL (car, taxi, bus, boat, moving RV, bicycle...) This means no open carry in a vehicle without CPL.

You can get a non resident WA state CPL while you are here. They will mail it to your home and it takes 60 days. $55.25 Apply at any police station during normal hours. Might not make it for this trip, but next time!

Yeah. Right. The facts are it doesn't happen. Cops and uniformed security people get shot at because the bad guys don't want to be apprehended and go to jail. I think it is a dumb idea not to carry a gun openly because the visible deterrent value far outweighs any remote chance of a bg wanting to confront a boldly armed citizen in the hopes of snatching his gun before he gets shot. Besides, no bg would want a Taurus (my gun) anyway :rofl:
And besides, I doubt thereare many unarmed bg's out there who are stupid enough to try to take a gun from a boldly armed citizen. And why would the bg use his gun to try to take my gun from me? He already has one. Why would he want another one at the risk of getting shot? Why wouldn't he just move to the next guy who isn't visibly armed and shake him down for money, credit cards, jewelry, other items of value that he could buy a guy safely on the street with?
