    Question Gay Marriage, CCW permits

1st this is not a post about gay marriage. Not the appropriate forum for that.
Iowa Supreme Court has stated that gay marriage is legal in Iowa under the equal protection clause of the Iowa Constitution. Not all states allow gay marriage. Some states it is even illegal. California passed a constitutional amendment prohibiting gay marriage. Any couple married in Iowa is recognized as married in all other states and DC under the full faith and credit clause of the US Constitution. Under that clause marriage licenses, drivers licenses, vehicle registrations, and other official state issued documents are fully recognized by all states in the none issuing states, even when they differ from the non-issuing states statues. Some states require an auto to be inspected annually before issuance of registration, yet if you visit that state from a state that does not have that requirement, your registration is still valid. Why then are CCW/CPL/CHL/LTC/CFP documents not recognized nationwide under the full faith and credit clause of the US Constitution? I am not an attorney, just a dumb old truck driver, so I know not the answer to this question. I am not looking to start a debate on gay marriage. I am simply trying to understand how one type of person (a person state authorized to carry a concealed weapon) can be discriminated against by another state?

Stormtruck - that is a very pointed framing of a good question. Presupposing there is some kind of logic to it is flawed. It could be as simple as revenue. Take hunting and Fishing license/permits (not quite a straightforward comparison but for the point) are either issued state by state or in some cases there is some limited reciprocity (adjoining states etc...).

I suspect though the uninformed rule the day. Bottom line it should not take reciprocity, or even a full faith clause in the Constitution. It should only take the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution.

This is not an easy question to answer, I expect it to get to SCOTUS sooner or later. Until it does, the States are pretty much free to do what they want.

This may become the Roe v Wade of our generation.

Although this thread has remained civil, it's toeing the line just by content alone.

Keep it on topic and within the rules of the forum please.

Ive also asked this question, on many differant forums and places, sadly the answer has always been a round about form of "we dont know, and dont have a clue why not".
I know not what this "overkill" means.

Honing the knives, Cleaning the longguns, Stocking up ammo.

Thats why I used the 1st line I did. Also the notice about it not being a gay marriage debate. I'm doing the best I can with a tough and touchy subject. I know you weren't admonishing me. Just letting you know I'm trying to comply. LOL
