Help me help a friend in Dallas, TX?

I have a close pal in TX who I've been talking CCW with lately. You'd figure being a Texan, he'd be born with a silver holster in his hand, but sadly no. He's got pretty excited about my first day at the range, and again after I told him all about my CCW class here. Definitely interested!! (YAY!) He's visiting next month, and we'd like to get him shooting with us, but more importantly, I'd like him to have a great CCW instructor nearby so he can take the class (and learn to shoot -- that would be a good first step!)

Are any of you guys instructors, or can you recommend a great one, in the Dallas area, please? Thanks!

I took my class with a member here, Reborn. He teaches his class out near Canton, but I can't say enough good things about him. He's salt of the earth and I had a great time in his class. In fact I've sent somewhere between 10 -20 people his way since last summer (my small group at church pretty much all decided to get their CHL with him).

The Bullet Trap is where I bought my first firearm (G23) and where I first learned how to shoot. Great range, great people!

Congrats on getting your friend into shooting-- we can all learn something from a woman with a rifle.

    Bunny,
As you have seen there are many great instructors around. Many great ranges around as well. If you can give just a bit more information about his location, then it may be possible to get him connected with a range that is closer to him.

Feel free to pm any of us and we will toss out a few possibilities. I've stated in a few other threads some of the pros and cons of a few of the local ranges.

Hope your friend has a great time and wants to return looking to get scheduled in a class at his earliest convenience.

Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

Both my Wife and I took out CHL classes at DFW Gun Range (DFW Gun Range - Training Center and Retail Firearms Store - Dallas, TX). I was going to send the Wife to the Bullet Trap but their classes take 2 days due to class size and with my Wife's schedule she only had a day to get it done.

I took my original CHL class in Plano at The Bullet Trap and my subsequent renewals at DFW Gun Range. Both have great instructors, good ranges, decent selection of rental handguns and a retail store to boot. If you go to DFW Gun Range, I would suggest taking your class from Eric Rea. He is a first rate instructor whose class is very thought-provoking as well as very well-run.

Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions and the PMs. I gave him all the info and invited him to join up here at the DC Boards. He found a class that he says looks interesting, so YAY! :)

Cool that is where I did my last renewal and where the wife took her class.
