No firearms sign at Renton Parks...
I just got my CPL a few days ago and have been getting used to carrying concealed whenever I can.
No one has made me yet so that is reassuring that the MTAC Minotaur is a fine holster.
I was taking my little Jack Russel for a walk next to the Renton Boeing plant. I noticed a new sign on the entrance pole as I walked in. I did not notice it before; the 2 years I have been here.
It clearly stated besides the other rules, that no firearms were allowed.
I thought only national parks had a no firearms policy.
So I had to turn back and go home.
The very reason I got a CPL was because I had to call the cops more than 3 times at the very same park. The first time when a perp was emptying a stolen bag in the center of the park, throwing all the robbed items all over the place, the second time when a crazy woman with a black lab and a gun was yelling at me because she thought me and the older woman walking her dog were Colombian drug dealers. And then when a bunch of shady characters were casing the place and at the same time 2 dogs who were with their owner always, well groomed, were now without their leash, seemed like they were homeless for days and disturbed.
That park is definitely not safe to be without a firearm. The cops take about 15-20 minutes to get there because they have to park and then walk to the exact location.
I just wanted to share this and wanted to know if you have faced similar incidents in parks and how you take steps to protect yourself.
I am off to my first Wally Walk!
Thanks for listening.

Is this a publicly owned park (city or county)? Washington state seems to have a pretty good preemption law that would prohibit the city or county from banning handguns.

My permit came last week too. I am enjoying my newfound rights.
It sounds like the place is a known center for criminal activity. You say that it is not safe to be in with out a firearm. I think that lends to it not being a safe place if you have one as well. I would avoid the place.

The park is owned by the City of Renton. It isn't a National or a State park

If it is a county, city or state park that sign holds no water in Washington. I just read thru your firearm laws and it's similar to PA laws. You have pre-emption, therefore no locality can pass laws, rules or regulations barring the carrying of firearms on public property.
It appears as if city, county and state parks are not off limit via state law, therefore these signs are moot.

Biggest prob if go into plant metal detector
Glock 33 .357 SIG plus .40 S&W barrel for most of practice. Keep loaded with .357 SIG hollow point for home protection.
RugerLCP .380 equipped with Crimson Trace for everyday carry.

find a better place to walk your dog. even a valid defence shooting CAN be expensive to defend in civil court.

The reason I go there is its right next to my house and its walking distance. The next dog dark is in Issaquah which is a 25 min drive. :-(

Gotta love signs like that - especially in problem areas, like they think any bad guy would pay attention to that? good grief

Well, as that idiot Greg Nichols found out, the city doesn't preempt the state constitution. Carry if you want.

Here in Spokane, I dont know if any city parks have those signs up. Not my local park anyway. If they did, I would be on the phone with someone from the police department asking why and if its legal! The only places I dont carry are schools, fed buildings, and bars.
oh yeah, have fun on your WWW! Its something you wont forget soon!

I gotta say, for all the Texan bravado, I like the WA gun laws a lot more. Signs dont mean beans.

Aaron, I think you underestimate the criminal mind sometimes,,,,If there is a sign that guns are not allowed,,,,then a criminal has a better chance of doing his misdeed and not getting shot!!!!
If you were a predator, where would you want to find prey??? The libs are making it easier for them.

I saw the same type sign at a local park here. I went on the city's website and read the park code. It said the samething but then had an exemption for licensed people as per state law. The sign was for the unlicensed people.
