92 days and counting...time to call SLED

Well, it's officially been longer than 90 days, which is supposed to be the official hit time here in SC. I've read that some members got it right at 90 days after mailing, but a couple here have heard it may go up to 110 or 120.

I'll call tomorrow and see what they say and let everyone know.

That is unbeleivable! I think I'd go insane. It took me 3 1/2 weeks to get mine in Renton WA and I was pulling my hair out.

Trust me, the wait has not been fun. Especially reading how some members from your state and others from NC (so close to me) have had such short waits as yours, or even shorter.

This forum has been a big help in continuing to educate myself while waiting, though.

It'll come, but it wouldn't hurt to call SLED.

I need to hurry up and take my class. I was hoping to get my Ruger LCP before the class, looks like i may be borrowing a gun to take the class.

SLED has been slammed for over a year and getting further behind. When you call they will tell that they are on it but also way behind due to demand. One instructor said "SLED" told him everyone applying now will probably go well past 90 days. Just bad luck that demand skyrocketed just when the gov't was cutting back. You'll get it eventually.

Jumper, I feel your pain. I'm also going to bite my tongue to refrain from going on a tear about Meck County...and instead gently remind you that it is taking me over 90 days to get my APPOINTMENT TO APPLY, and then the wait time should be about 90 days after that. (Appointment time was in early April. I hear it is closer to 120 day at the moment, so thank goodness for that. I guess.)

Sorry, rant over. I'm right there with ya, Buddy :) Call SLED and let us know. And I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it comes in the mail ASAP!

I'm right about the same wait time. Actual date of class was March 7. What was yours?

I don't know why there is a backlog to begin with. If the person is a US citizen, anyone can run a full background check online in 24 hours. You can get details of where the person lived going back to when he was a little baby. Private companies like Intelius charge about $100 for that. I doubt they access mental health records like they say on their papers.

Since I'm active duty Army, I didn't have to actually take a class. Sent in the packet 1 March, got it back 4 March, and sent it back again 5 March.

If you happen to be in the Clemson area (as your user name might imply) there is a instructor nearby (over in Liberty SC) who provides a Revolver and Ammunition at no extra charge with his class. Let me know if you need the contact info.
