quick question re: Colorado car carry

Hey guys, I plan on contacting an attorney and/or sheriff about this, but thought someone on here may know also. according to the colorado state website,

"18-12-204. Permit Contents - Validity - Carrying Requirements.
(3) (a) a person who may lawfully possess a handgun may carry a handgun under the following
circumstances without obtaining a permit and the handgun shall not be considered concealed:
(I) the handgun is in the possession of a person who is in a private automobile or in some other private
means of conveyance and who carries the handgun for a legal use, including self-defense"

that makes it sound like while i am waiting for my permit (i haven't applied since moving here yet) I am allowed to carry in the car for means of self protection. Now, my question is this...where am i allowed to store the gun? when i was AZ, it could be in a glove box as long as it was holstered and still not be considered "concealed". is it the same here, in CO?

anyone have any advice?

It doesn't matter. You can wear it on your hip if you want. If on your person don't cover it up. CO is an open carry state. You won't have any problems except Boulder and Denver. Don't open carry there.

i came from az via a 5 month stop in MI. so, i think i'll need to contact my sheriff then...i'm in lakewood and have to drive through denver to get to work.

Don't open carry in Denver. You can have it any where in the car. My cop friends like to be told if you have a gun if you get stopped. They are used to people having guns.

You can conceal your handgun anywhere you wish, even on your person as long as your in your vehicle according to the statutes. Check out Rocky Mountain Gun Owners - Home. They have all the statutes posted.

Boulder doesn't have a law against open carry (except on their open space land), only Denver. Not many people do it, but I know of a few that do. You'll definitely get some looks if you do.

Ft. Collins also prohibits OC on their Open Spaces and Natural Areas. I've been told to conceal my pistol once when OC'ing in Lory State Park. The fight didn't seem worth it to me.
