TN, Shelby County guns in parks.

Ok guys, I read in the paper yesterday that Shelby Co is going to try to pass a resolution banning CC in parks ,despite the recent change in law by the State. I spoke to the County Commission this morning, Commissioner Wyatt Bunker is leading the charge for the good guys. If you want to support carry in the parks ,please call the commission at (901) 545-4301 at let them know your thoughts. Also, next Monday at 1:00 it goes before the Commission for a vote, we can show up and make a difference. I'm going, if anyone else is interested.

    What a load of ........!

Fight that issue tooth and nail!

Thankfully, in Michigan, no local municipality can pre-empt state law regarding CC.

    Good luck!

I am in Murfreesboro and these idiots have more or less decided not to push for ban in parks for now. I come to Memphis about once a month and hope that they do not pass that crazy resolution.

Tennessee is the same. But the recent state law repealing the 'no guns in parks' law allows for municipalities to post their properties.
The preceding post may contain sarcasm; it's just better that way. However, it is still intended with construction and with the Love of my L-rd Y'shua.

Chattanooga & Hamilton county has done the same. This state law that was passed is useless. The majority has passed or is in the process of passing. So basically, you still cannot carry in parks in TN. The preemption law could come into play if someone with some $$$ would file on several of these cities and counties. OR, this will open the door for them to bar or prohibit carry anywhere in the TN counties or cities that pass a resolution.

Chattanooga City Council & Mayor suck!

With an open gang war going on in the city, the council are openly whizzing on themselves to stop legal carry in parks. No one would ever get robbed or shot at Coolidge Park or on the Riverwalk. The mayor and council are a group of do nothing morons that mortgaged millions of dollars on the VW plant. Downtown Chattanooga is not a safe area to be. A 15 year old was shot in a parking lot across the street from the downtown police precinct!

Yeah, but if they ban guns in parks, those bad guys will leave their guns at home.

Murfreesboro City Council is voting on it tonight, 9 July 2009:
City Council - City Council Agenda

I e-mailed every member of the City Council as well as the Mayor. The Mayor e-mailed me back in twenty minutes, Councilman Wyatt Bunker even faster than that. Here's what I got from the Mayor,

"Thanks. Please be assured that I will give full consideration to your views as I deal with this matter."
    A C

I'll take that as politician for 'HaHa, I'm voting for it, I'll think about you and smile when I pull the lever"

    Councilman Bunkers reply is here,

"I will not support the resolution to prohibit guns in parks. Please call if you have any questions. xxx-xxxx"
    Wyatt

    Plain English, works for me.
Councilman Bunker is going to have to quit being honest and speaking clearly if he's ever going to be a Mayor....lol.

    What Agave said.....
The problem with the "carry in parks" bill is that in order to get enough votes to get it passed a section was included to allow counties/cities to opt out of it if they passed a resolution/etc.

This wouldn't have bothered me at all if it had allowed for a vote by the people living in the cities/counties, but letting a handful of local politicians decide with out heeding imput from the majority of their constituants (sp?) it stupid. It's also the reason our country is in the mess it's currently in, but that's for another day.

    So yeah, Tennessee's got preemption..
