    Permit Numbers in Pennsylvania

Yearly the State Police publishes a report of the number of CCW's issued. Each years report can be found at the following:
    PSP

To get an idea how many CCWs are in force, you have to add the previous 5 years. See Below:

    Year Statewide Allegheny County (Pittsburgh)
    2008 150,843 13,012
    2007 164,824 11,029
    2006 102,473 8,729
    2005 101,643 8,729
    2004 107,285 10,081
    Totals 627,068 51,580

For the record, Philadelphia is not the second highest (even though it is the most populated), and Westmoreland County (just east of Allegheny) has the highest per capita.

Pennsylvania is about 45,000 ahead of Florida, but we are closing the gap at roughly 11,00 per month net gain.

I'd like to see the '09 numbers. Nationwide I'm hearing many counties are on pace to DOUBLE last years permit numbers.

I suspect that the reason the number of new permits increased in 2007 was that the people were anticipating a change in 2A policy in the upcoming election. But that's only my opinion FWIW. I could be wrong but you never know.

In March of this year, records indicate there were 132,000+ active permits in Connecticut. By the middle of June the number had climbed to 146,000+. There is no indication as to how many permit holders are actually carrying.

In CT, a permit is required to do anything more than keep a handgun in your own business or residence. Without a permit, you cannot take it out of the house for any reason, except to take it to a repair shop. A permit is needed to even to go to the range.

FWIW, in my little town of 23,000, there are almost 1,400 permit holders.
