Rhode Island CCW Application Process
I put all my paperwork in today. Thought everyone might find it interesting to see how the application process in RI differs from their neck of the woods. RI state legislature requires:
*BCI check
*FBI fingerprinting
*Signiture of police chief from town of residency
*Letter from employer stating proper need
(Rhode Island rarely approves personal requests)
*Qualification in front of a NRA certified instructor
*Copy of license and birth certificate
*Three personal/professional references
*Address information from previous three years
*Notorized application form
And then wait...decision may take up to three months.
(Although my employer states that it should go through quicker)
The link is for the full form and the current RI CCW Laws for anyone that may be interested.

Rhode Island rarely approves personal requests
So - not ''shall issue'' then I take it.
Hmmm - plenty of hoops there but I guess not as bad as a few we could mention!!! What a contrast to PA tho!!

Well, best wishes to you. Hope it doesn't take the whole 3months.
Also curious, as P95Carry asked, is Rhode Island not a 'shall issue' state?

RI is not a "shall issue" state. It (the state) believes that, and I quote, "No one in the state has a right to obtain a pistol permit," the policy states. "A pistol permit is a privilege left to the sound discretion of the attorney general."

Oh my - that word ''privelage'' - hate it!
Does not say much for the 2A there! Sad.

Interesting, let us know how it goes. I have the RI application in my office, and am waiting on getting my old NRA intructor's certifications. I thought the MA application was bad, the RI one is worse.
I am not required to carry for my job, we'll see how mine goes.
Hopefully when I show them my ME resident, NH nonresident and MA nonresident they'll figure I'm a 'good guy".

I went to school in RI and never thought that it would be so anti-gun, with Buddy Cianci the mayor of Providence who had been convicted of burning a man's face with a cigar and all. I figured that they would be more open to it. After hearing that and experiencing the BS in NJ I am glad I live in FL.
Take class, get fingerprints, get passport style picture, notarize application, send in with check for $117. 90 days later it arrives in mail. I hope it all goes smoothly for you.
