Nevada CCW Reciprocity List: 2009 Changes

As of July 1, 2009, Nevada has removed Utah and Florida from the list of states whose CCWs it recognizes. It has added Ohio and West Virginia to the list, however.

Here's the link with the official notification:

    Nevada Department of Public Safety

BTW, anybody planning to visit Nevada that doesn't have a permit from one of the states that Nevada recognises is free to carry openly: there are no laws restricting open carry in Nevada. Nevada also has state pre-emption of gun laws; cities and counties are not allowed to pass laws more restrictive than state law on firearms issues.

Due to some existing laws in Clark County (where Las Vegas is located) being grandfathered in at the time the state pre-emption law passed, however, it is illegal in Clark County to carry a gun into a casino and certain other locations where guns are allowed elsewhere in the state. If you visit Clark County and plan to carry, be sure to check Handgunlaw.us for the details.

Finally, a warning to visitors to Clark County -- two communities in Clark County are still enforcing local laws banning deadly weapons, although state preemption makes those laws illegal: North Las Vegas and Boulder City. As I understand it, you may be arrested for driving through those cities with a gun in the car, or for carrying a loaded firearm openly.

If you were to be arrested in either city, it is likely that if you fight the arrest and appeal any convictions, they will be overturned. You may be able to get the Nevada ACLU (which supports Second Amendment rights, unlike the national ACLU) or the NRA to fund your appeal. However, your guns will certainly be confiscated and you might have trouble getting them back. I personally think that communities with such laws deserve to be given a wide berth by honest gun-owners, and denied the benefits of our tourism and shopping dollars. Extra points if you write a letter to the Chamber of Commerce telling them what they missed, and why.

Would you quote the Clark County Ordinances or the NRS.

I lived there for 30 years, move 3 years ago. I must have missed this.
