    Stepfathers CCW encounter today...

Well my step dad is the man who got me into hunting and shooting, always looked up to him, even more of a dad than my real one at times. And he was also on my butt about getting my ccw when I was growing up. Well, last week he was driving on I-430 about to hit the Arkansas river bridge in LR, when his tie rod broke sending his car into a rock wall at 40 miles an hour, he got out with out a scratch, car was in amazing shape to for what had just happened. Well the Cop arrives and my step father hands him his CCW and DL. The Cop Smiles big and ask if he can see the gun. Ed of course agrees and they small talk about the Original Colt .45 he carries. The officers drops the clip, and jacks the slide... there wasn't a bullet in the hole.

Ed said he was so embarrassed, being 61 and a 30 year old trooper chewing him out on the side of the interstate for the gun not even being loaded.

He was confused at first then the cop placed the clip in the gun, put one in the chamber, and properly handed the gun back to my step father saying "We cant be everywhere at once, in a life or death situation we will be on scene in minutes, u have seconds to make a choice...an empty chamber will do you no good, carry it like you mean it and be prepared."

I thought that was a very good Cop encounter with CCW, my step father still blushes over it

That is a perilous mistake, especially with a 1911.
Hopefully he never has to use it, but that cop may have saved his life if he did.

430 bridge over the river? Man oh man...what a bad place to have to stop a car. That right there is about as dangerous as it gets.

That it is, had a friend in HS whose father was a trooper, he was hit while doing a traffic stop about 7 years back in that same area.

It sounds like that Trooper stopped your Step-Dad from carrying a paperweight and got him to start carrying a gun.

I bet when the trooper got back to his patrol car, he double checked his own weapon...just to make sure...

Nice to hear your stepfather is unharmed and nice ending there.

Now wouldn't it be nice if everyone was as concerned for our safety as that LEO. Great story.

I would say excellent encounter, except I think your stepfather would rather have his car...
