    International carry?

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this... but is it possible to take firearms with you (at all) or to carry in other countries? Obviously this would be a country-by-country thing, but I can't find any information on it (here or elsewhere) and was wondering if anyone had any resources to help out.

Specifically I'll be flying to Mexico in my boss' plane in the next month or so and was wondering if I was even allowed to have a firearm with me. I've read of instructors taking weapons into Canada, but that's about all I've found...

I believe firearms cannot be transported into Mexico, unless you have a special hunting permit and then that is a lot of hassle from what I have heard. You're looking at jail time if you get caught with a firearm or ammo in Mexico while you're a tourist.

Check out this site. I can't vouch for it's veracity, so caveat emptor.

Technically it's a business trip (no tourist time for me unfortunately), but I ain't takin' nothing unless I know it's on the up and up... who the heck wants to wind up in a Mexican prison?

The info in that website is basically what I figured the answer would be.

Looks like international travel may become part of my job - does anyone know of resources to check various countries, or is it just a lot of internet research that needs to be done each time?

You can get a job like OPFOR has.
I will support gun control when you can guarantee all guns are removed from this planet. That includes military and law enforcement. When you can accomplish that, then I will be the last person to lay down my gun. Then I will carry the weapon that replaces the gun.

Country Specific Information US State Department
General information about travel. Detailed info about crime. Check Mexico information about crime. You probably will cancel your trip.
    Not much about guns.

I know Mexico is bad - that's why I'm asking. Can't cancel the trip though.

    Cool

Tiwee and Kevin. I think you are mistaken about travel safety in Mexico. Most of what Americans know is about the border states of Mexico and the US. I vacation fairly often in the state of Yucatan. As safe as most American states. The capitol, Merida, is safer than most US cities of comparable size (one million). Most street cops don't even carry sidearms. Street patrols of course do. Rural areas are equally safe for travel. Same for Campeche.

NO to the gun in Mexico. Same goes for ammunition. They are VERY strict.

Your issues would be street crime, not the narco wars you see in the papers. If you're on business, the places you'll go (hotels and restaurants) won't be issues.

I'm there frequently (all next week in fact) and have never had any problems. Leave the jewelry at home too! Timex rules....

don't ever bring a weapon to another country for concealed carry

US is pretty much the only country that has 'shall issue' most of the time, they are all like Kalifornia, and even limited with the amount of ammo you can buy

How ironic! The anti-gun politicians want to blame America for putting guns into the hands of the criminals in Mexico, yet an American citizen cannot event think about gong there with a bullet in his shirt pocket. I wish our country could be stricter when it comes to the things people are bringing from Mexico into the United States.

    Yeah, like themselves...

    To the OP...
I know of no other country that would allow you to bring your weapon into the country when visiting...and most of them have jails that you would not want to visit.
