Is there a database on this forum that lists in which states you need to inform the LEO if you're pulled over that you are carrying? If so, could someone point me in the right direction? I live in New York State (not NYC) and was wondering what the protocol is in my area (Buffalo). This was not covered in my permit class.
Here in NC, the back of the permit clearly states the necessity to inform. Can't understand a class instructor not covering this issue. Further, I'll do whatever it takes to make the LEO feel less stress.
Go to Handgunlaw.us, they have the info you need.

In NYS you do not have to notify unless asked if you are carrying.
In NYC you had better not be.
Thanks, that's what I thought, since I've never heard of having to inform... I was just wondering after reading some posts here.
If you go to the link JD offered you will find it and more.
If in doubt, inform...but you should be familiar with ALL other laws in your area as well...very important to be informed.

HandgunLaw says no you do not have to inform as per State law, but the laws are also made by 59 licensing jurisdictions in NY that are not pre-empted by State law. You local juristiction may require you to inform.
I was stopped a few weeks ago for a turn signal violation. I handed the leo my DL & CHP permit together. He asked me "Did I have a weapon in the Car" I said "Yes" he then said " Next time inform me of the fact that you have a weapon" I said " That is why I handed you my DL & CHP permit together sir" He said "Have a good night and drive safely" I said "Thank You and You likewise".
