Certainly answers the question of "why shouldn't I open carry"?

    Thumbs up

An old training quote is that success is "20% skills and 80% strategy".

When life is on the line, you will not rise to the occasion, you will default to the level of your training.

No kidding yourself here, you will fight like you train, not because you read it in an article. Simunition or Airsoft shines in this training. Put off buying your next real gun and get a Sim gun with friends and you'll have a lot of fun and learn a lot about your performance level.

Tactical advantage #1 should be understanding and employing the OODA Loop / Boyd's Cycle. Because whether it's fists or guns, it's philosophy is what win's confrontations.
Training means learning the rules. Experience means learning the exceptions.

Anyone reading this article will come away from it a wiser person. Great insight into human nature and the problems you might face other than the BG himself. I hope all members read this. Thanks for a wonderful post.

It's a good article. Principles we already know, but it's always good to review and in a good format to pass along. Thanks!

Rod, honestly, principles I believe a lot don't know. This isn't a follow up flame post but just speaking out loud after reading your post. Look at a bunch of the posts on this site alone... look how many daily are writing they just got their CWP or OCP... or are waiting, or are taking their wives to class, or are asking about guns. Some you can tell carry and are seeking opinions and input, others you can tell are just starting. In my state alone 15,000 a month are sending in their completed CWP applications with 600,000+ already legal to carry. Everyone has to start somewhere, as we all did, and I applaud everyone doing it and encourage it. However, I guarantee that 98% have never read anything like this, nor even considered some of this stuff. I hope the article shed's some light on the need to take it a step further to understand what you might really be faced with should you decide to carry (as well as the need to further ones ability and not just on a gun range). The scene in the quick in the dead with Gene Hackman and Leonardo DiCaprio comes to mind.

GoldenSaber, I am not certain if every instructor teaches this in Texas but I know that my Concealed Handgun License (CHL) Instructor did. I am an NRA instructor and will be a CHL instructor next year. Texas only certifies CHL instructors once each year in June. My wife had knee replacement surgery during the middle of the 40 hour class this year and I had to miss it.

He had a different name for it: Situational Stress. The description was exactly the same.

Any comments from any other Texas CHL holders as to whether it was part of your class or not?
