carrying a 1911
Hello
I have a Trp springer 1911 just hit a thousand rds it's been 100% for those 1000 rds.
Do you think it's reliable enough to carry for SD?
Or maybe I should ask what do you all think about carrying a 1911 at all?
Thanks ahead of time for your replies.

It's been nearly 100 years - since it's still around, I think you have your answer...

My favorite carry piece is a Springfield EMP. In the 500+ rounds I've put through it, I've never had a failure of any sort. The ease of carrying this gun, plus the fact I can carry it in condition 1 is a big plus. I also carry my HK USP 45c in condition 1 . . . but, the grip safety on a 1911 is quite comforting. The fact that the basic design of a 1911 hasn't changed much for nearly a century speaks for the mastery of John Browning.
At times, I'm even tempted to part with my special Sig226 for a full size 1911 . . . but then I take the Sig out to the range or a practical shooting competition, and I think otherwise!

I'm not sure what you mean by "reliable enough"......as if to intimate that 1911's are somehow inherently less reliable than other platforms.
The 1911 is extremely reliable and has been proven so, under the most extreme conditions since it was adopted by the U.S. Army in, you guessed it, 1911.
I'd carry a quality 1911 anywhere, anytime.

I won't own a gun that is not 100% reliable, realizing that every mechanical object can fail. That said, I own and carry, among other things, five 1911s.

Sounds like a winner to me. Carry with confidence. Run quality ammo and some good JHPs as your defense rounds with a extra mag and you're well protected IMO. I'm gonna pick up a Kimber soon and it's going to all but replace my Kahr 9mm for EDC.
Good luck!

Don't get me wrong 1911's are my favorite Platform.
It's just been a long time since I have been able to carry anything other then a glock. Now the feel of a 1911 is just like an old friend.
There is a lot of forums out here that really discourage the carrying of a 1911. I'm really curious as to why. There are still LE and HRT units and special forces that use them. I figure my TRP will go bang hit what I point a it. Like I said feels like an old friend on my hip.

I can tell by the poll votes that I 1911 (the old friend ) is still alive.
Just what I need to hear.

If I had my former .45 it would be a very hard decision on which handgun to carry. I've had a 1911 in the past and will have one again in the future. For the time being my G26 gets the job done. I'll always be a fan of the .45!

It served the American GI well for almost a century... There are a lot of people not breathing today because of the 1911. I'll let you conclude your own answer

Even the days that I am "REQUIED" to carry something else, a 1911 spends more time on my hip than any other.

Just looking at this poll and the replies I think I'll have to go looking for another 1911. Keep the replies coming I'll show this to wife just before I mention that I should get another 1911. HA! HA!
