Awesome! Now find out how many folks in your Ward want to go to the range for the day! :) (We have a CCW instructor in ours and a few CCL holders!)

I live in Provo, UT so I'm familiar with the state regs. You are required to inform.
So when did the law change in Utah about informing?

I think it's kinda silly for the LEO to take your firearm and make a
simple stop a dog and pony show,GG informing LEOs that they are
    carrying are not a threat.

I would think folks driving by see someone waving a gun around
    would draw some unwanted attention.
If I wanted everyone to know I was carrying a GUN I would put stickers or a sign on My truck.

I'm pretty sure the law in Utah does not require that citizen inform. You handled it reasonably, though. Personally, unless the law requires otherwise, I think it is most logical to only inform if the LEO puts you in a situation that makes it likely the officer could discover your weapon (e.g. asks you to step out of the car).

around this end of the state it's apparently no big deal?

I low sided my motorcycle a couple of weeks ago and the responding officer (Monroe County Sheriff ) asked to see my drivers license as I was sitting in an Ambulance ( No biggy, just road rash and bruised and/or broken ribs ~~~ I drove the bike home) I handed him my drivers License and my Permit and said "I'm carrying the Ruger LCP on my right hip"

The officer said "Oh? Thanks for telling me, you sure it's still there, or should I go look through the neighbors front yard" and he handed my permit back, he didn't even bother to check my gun

I smiled and said "it's still on me, thats the third thing I checked on, right after making sure the boss and the bike were all right"

he just smiled and went about his job?

    No problem at all?

It is legal in Utah to carry on college campuses? Here in Florida that is a big no no.

Sure is they can regulate it just like any other private company and USU is one that is CC friendly. Front Sight actually did a deal where any USU student could get a 4 day handgun course for free when USU announced that they would allow CC but that was a few years ago and I missed out.

To, or not to. Do inform and things will probably go the way the OP described.

Don't inform and you get a gun pointed at your head by a LEO whose adrenalin just shot through the roof.

    Utah Gets It

Utah's laws are written to prohibit colleges from enacting policies restricting CCW by licensed persons. Recently, they changed their laws regarding carry in private motor vehicles: One no longer needs a CCW to carry a loaded handgun in a private motor vehicle. You just need to be legally allowed to possess one.

Those are a couple of the things I meant when I said "Utah Gets It".
An armed populace are called citizens.
An unarmed populace are called subjects.

sounds like it went good to me and you did the right
thing by going ahead and telling the officer you had a permit
and a gun with you. Even if you dont have to disclose that you
had a permit and a gun it shows respect and safety to the officer.
If you didnt tell the officer and he saw your gun he may have drawn
his weapon on you?? Taking your gun and putting it in the trunk just
sounds cautiously smart for the officer to do.

If you have never stopped or questioned a COMPLETE STRANGER that was armed, well it can be quite nerve racking at times.

I don't see why being informed that I have a gun would make your nerves on edge. Finding it without being informed, maybe. Having it suddenly appear in my hand pointed at you definitely.

But the (uniformed civilians) Police need to get used to people having guns on them.

I disarmed ONCE for a twitchy police officer upon informing him of my status. I SERIOUSLY doubt I will do it again, especially on my property. The other 3 or 4 LEO encounters have not even requested that I disarm.
