Well, that makes it more clear for me! Thanks. I guess now I have more details to explain why I prefer my XD over my 1911 (don't throw anything at me, please!)! 
I have an aversion to manual safeties, which is why this thread interested me so much. Nothing that I believe applies to all shooters, across America, just personally, I learned on an XD and it's become second nature to me. I never could get totally comfortable on the 1911 platform because of the manual safety.

Safety is always on while carrying a 1911. Asking for trouble if the safety is off.
