Whoops, Remove gun before getting fitted...

Funny little thing happen to me the other day, I was out at the mall on my way to get fitted for a tux for my brother's wedding. I get there with my wife and go through the usual questions and then the part where they start to measure things like your waist line. For some reason I forgot about that part and the guy goes to measure my waist and immediately I think Uh Oh, because I'm CC'ing at the time. The next thing I hear is "could you remove your cell phone please?" and I'm just standing there like "Um....yeah.....cell phone.....". So I turn my strong side away from him and towards my wife and try to discreetly hand her my gun to put in her purse. I doubt if they saw anything besides me take a black thing off and hand it to my wife, ether that or they just didn't care. I know there is no reason to hide it, I carry legally, I just didn't feel like producing a gun in front of 2 people that were expecting a cell phone lol.

I know I'm not the best story tell bu I hope you enjoy my little story, if not oh well I thought it was a little humorous.

When I get fitted for a suit I just tell them that I'm carrying, and that I always carry.

It's never been a problem. With suits it's the little things, like good tailoring that can help with concealment. I probably would've just told them, "It's not a cell phone, and I always have it on. I need my suits to fall correctly in order to help hide it."

Most tailors or seamstress won't have a problem.

Sounds like you played it off pretty well, could have been really awkward (more than it already was), good thing your wife was there! My wife may not have played it so cool. Well played! I just started carrying a few months ago so I have not yet had such an experience, I am sure the more I carry the more I will be ok to just tell them that it's there.

Agreed Biker, The problem with that is I unfortunately will not be carrying at the wedding. The wedding is out of state and I have to fly and I dont trust checking it at the airport being that it is my only hand gun and if I were to get it stolen I would have no way to replace it. Also, the very short time I will be there would have alcohol which would mean I shouldn't be armed then anyways =)

Hmmm, maybe my bro would let me carry his gun while in state.....lol

I did a similar thing last winter up here in Provo Utah. There is a Mens Warehouse not too far from where I live and I had to get my suit refitted because I started training again for Tri-athelons. I carry one of the 3 common ways, depending on what I am wearing, either on my hip IWB, ankle, or Shoulder houlster. Well today, this fine 15* day in January, I was using the shoulder holster under a thicker leather jacket. I didnt even think twice about it when I took the jacket off and the poor taylor almost freaked out. My friend who was with me said here I will hold onto that for a minuet, and since he was LE the taylor saw his badge on his belt and went a little more relaxed. Poor guy must have almost crapped himself when he turned and stood eye to weapon. Funny thing is that Utah is very pro-gun. Guess he just wasnt.

Hm. I recently did just the opposite. Three fitted slacks, all adjusted to accommodate the rig.

I do a lot of clothing tailoring... fitting formals to carry is a not-uncommon thing. Especially if the garments need other tailoring too. I'm sure there exist many super-anti tailors around, but most should be fine if you simply tell them "I need the clothing to fit me, and the things I have to have on me."

I've been fitted three times now while carrying at a Mens Warehouse. No problems yet, and would recommend them to other CCW's.

yep, me too, if they have a problem with it I really don't care, if they push the issue I'd have no problem taking my business elsewhere

they told me lots of LEOs and people that CCW get there stuff tailored to fit there, and they did a great job

My experience at Men's Wearhouse has been identical. Tell them what you need, and their tailor is happy to oblige. Their sales staff generally don't even blink at seeing a firearm. And they are good at accommodating a tuckable IWB.

I went to an MWTux store to be fitted for my wedding tuxedo, and was fitted by this short, dapper little man with a British accent. His eyes got a little big when I said that my waist was not, in fact a 44", and took off the gun and leatherman sheath that I had on.

Like many others here, I buy my dress clothes (mostly) at Men's Wearhouse. The taylor's really know their way around a carry piece ... they'll tell you how it affects the hem, the drape of the cloth, circumference of waist and all that jazz.

On my last visit I think the taylor actually enjoyed the fact that I was carrying because it presented the opportunity for her to demonstrate her real skills.

You probably won't print through a suit, but when the taylor does his/her work, you absolutely won't print.

Mens Warehouse has always been good. I would say alot of it has to do with the amount of us LEO's that buy suits there. Not too expensive but still nice stuff LOL.
