    Depends.. just out running errands, dinner, etc.. Just 8+1 in pistol. If it's going to be a long day, road trip, hiking, etc.. 8+1 in pistol, plus 2 spare mags @ 8rds/piece. Total = 25 rounds

    I carry 2 spare mag's = 26 rounds
    plus the mag charged = 13 rounds
    Plus the round chamberd = 1 round
    total = 40 rounds
    It's not just about round count. What about failure? Do you train for failure? Magazine failure, FTF, FTE... ring a bell...you're going to be happy you had that extra mag when you get locked up in a gunfight and your gun don't go boom.

    I carry...
    7+1 in Primary
    2 extra mags 7x2
    5 in the back up

    Total= 27Rounds

    Then you have to have to go to more primitive methods pepper spray, knives, and the two fists god gave you. If you cant get the job done it just wasent ment to be.

    When I carry a handgun concealed the hindrance of weight and bulk are part of my spare ammo decisions. Unless I go on an extended trip, I prefer not to carry extra mags with my full size autos that carry 12+1 or 15+1 rounds. I always carry an extra speed-loader or magazine with my subcompacts that carry less rounds.

    When the zombie outbreak occurs I will carry all of my 5 mags for my war-pistol along with my AR mags.

    My minimum is two guns and four reloads.

    That's not to say that I haven't carried more off duty.

    I carry at least 1 extra mag for what ever gun I am carrying. I have carried 2 spares before and do so when I am more comfortable doing so.

    But what the heck, nobody ever wished they had less ammo during a fire fight. A whole lot have wished for more.
    As usual, SIXTO hits the point very well.

    Carry what makes YOU feel comfortable. On duty I carry my Glock 23 with 2 spare mags on my belt, a 22 mag in my bag on the passenger seat, M4 locked in the trunk with 4 mags, and the IIIA vest has 2 more 23 mags and 2 more M4 mags in the pouches. Plus I carry a BUG, either my G27, S&W640 or Keltec P3AT.

    Off-duty it is usually my G27 with one spare mag. Sometimes 2 mags and a BUG depending on where I go.

    These days I carry my primary and one easily accessible spare mag. In addition I carry one other spare mag stoked with Glaser Safety Slugs.
    I do have a user-specific reason for carrying the additional Glaser which has to do with ricochet elimination.

    I also carry a BUG which is a P3AT nowadays and I do not carry a spare mag for P3AT unless I am headed into an area with a higher threat level that the area I live in.

    My everyday knife carry is a SOG Pentagon Elite II since there are no blade length restrictions in my State and I prefer a 5" blade.

    I also carry an OC keychain unit.

    I am personally not big on flashlight carry during the day at all.
    I have excellent night vision & I am not afraid of the dark. <~~
    I have a small LED light on my Keychain that works just fine as a total darkness emergency "Find The Exit Door" light.

    I have a larger light with a Strobe that I keep with my night defense shotty (not ON the weapon) as I CAN see a real advantage of having a disorienting & blinding strobe as a home defense tool.
