Question about new signs in TN
Hi everyone long time lurker, first time poster.
Ever since the recent bill pasted allowing carry into establishments that serve alcohol, I have noticed more and more no firearms signs but most of these are makeshift signs some even being written in marker on a piece of computer paper. My question being, does Tennessee have a standardized no carry sign, and if they do, do you carry into establishments that don't follow their legal obligation to post these mandated signs of no carry? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site...
I copied this from the Home - TN.gov website:
Recently, the Tennessee General Assembly passed several laws pertaining to where valid handgun carry permit holders are allowed to carry their firearms. The recent changes in law allow valid handgun carry permit holders to take their firearm into RESTAURANTS and PARKS, provided no other prohibition exists. Please note not every restaurant and park has chosen to allow handguns, even if you posses a valid handgun carry permit.
Individual RESTAURANTS may choose to prohibit firearms in their establishment. Restaurants opting to prohibit firearms will notify customers by posting a sign.
This is clear that each restaurant has the right to post their own signs, but is unclear about the specifics of these signs.

Well howdy mrh3s and welcome from a fellow Tennessee Volunteer!
Here is the bottom line on the posting:
The sign must have words very similar to the following:
"THE OWNER/OPERATOR OF THIS PROPERTY HAS BANNED WEAPONS ON THIS PROPERTY, OR WITHIN THIS BUILDING OR THIS PORTION OF THIS BUILDING. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS PROHIBITION IS PUNISHABLE AS A CRIMINAL ACT UNDER STATE LAW AND MAY SUBJECT THE VIOLATOR TO A FINE OF NOT MORE THAN FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($500)." It may also be accompanied by the symbol of a gun with a slash through it. However, you will read in the law, that a mere gun with a slash through it is not a legal posting.
This is from the Tennessee Code and it IS THE LAW.
Anything else you hear unless it is in TCA or the State Attorney General's opinion, is mere nonsense.

Welcome to the forum.
No CC in restaurants that serve alcohol here. Just OC
Don't believe what you hear and only half of what you see!

That sucks, at least here there is an "approved sign" .... and anything outside of that doesn't count.

Orangevol and Gibber seem to have pretty well answered your question.
My personal take on the situation as it stands right now, any sign that is posted is enough for me. The way I see it, if they do not welcome me with my gun, then they are not going to get any of my money. I do make it a point to give the owner or manager on duty one of the no guns = no $$$ cars I carry with me. And I make sure to tell them that I will be telling everyone I know, and many more people through websites like this one, to avoid their establishment. That usually makes them think long and hard about taking the stupid sign down.
