    Alright, I give.

    State fair time. So I research the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act and find this.
    A. It shall be unlawful for any person in possession of a valid concealed
    handgun license issued pursuant to the provisions of the Oklahoma
    Self-Defense Act to carry any concealed handgun into any of the
    following places:
    1. Any structure, building, or office space which is owned or leased
    by a city, town, county, state, or federal governmental authority for
    the purpose of conducting business with the public;
    2. Any meeting of any city, town, county, state or federal officials,
    school board members, legislative members, or any other elected
    or appointed officials;
    3. Any prison, jail, detention facility or any facility used to process,
    hold, or house arrested persons, prisoners or persons alleged
    delinquent or adjudicated delinquent;
    4. Any elementary or secondary school, or technology center school
    property;
    5. Any sports arena during a professional sporting event;
    6. Any place where pari-mutuel wagering is authorized by law; and
    7. Any other place specifically prohibited by law.

    For purposes of paragraphs 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 of subsection A of this
    section, the prohibited place does not include and specifically excludes
    the following property:

    1. Any property set aside for the use of any vehicle, whether attended
    or unattended, by a city, town, county, state, or federal
    governmental authority,
    2. Any property set aside for the use of any vehicle, whether attended
    or unattended, by any entity offering any professional sporting
    event which is open to the public for admission, or by any entity
    engaged in pari-mutuel wagering authorized by law, 3. Any property adjacent to a structure, building, or office space in
    which concealed weapons are prohibited by the provisions of this
    section, and
    4 Any property designated by a city, town, county, or state,
    governmental authority as a park, recreational area, or fairgrounds
    ;
    provided nothing in this paragraph shall be construed to authorize
    any entry by a person in possession of a concealed handgun into
    any structure, building, or office space which is specifically
    prohibited by the provisions of subsection A of this section.
    So I think I'm good to go right? Well after a half mile walk through some mud to get to the gate, what do I see but a NO weapons sign. Not wanting to tempt fate and legal problems, I go back to the truck stash it in my spot and go in. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother. Pretty cheesed that I thought I was good to go but apparently not.

    I should just know that anytime I think I might need to carry to just leave it at home because it won't be allowed anyways. Pretty much any gathering of people will be off limits. God help the authority that deprives me of my right to self-defense and something happens to me or my family. There will be a sizable lawsuit headed their way, large enough to make them think twice before barring citizens who have jumped through hoops to remain in the law, from their right to self-defense. Hell, I thought Oklahoma had good carry laws but the more I try to carry, it becomes obvious that we have a long ways to go. It's crap that we are treated like second class citizens.

    Sounds as restrictive as it is here in NC.

    Here in Washington state we have the Western Washington Fair. I took the chance that I'd be able to carry and brought my pocket gun. Got to the fair and there were no signs posted, no searches of bags or pat downs. Just rent-a-cops watching people enter.

    It's interesting.....you could go there and likely never get caught, and if you did....I doubt most LEO's would know the letter of the law. There are so many laws out there from white tail lights, to boat trailers, to handguns. There's just no way they can know them all perfectly. And it's like you said...what's the point? It seems like every single place is banned anyway! A fairground seems like the last place anyone would want to press any real charges.
    It is utterly illogical to believe that passing laws to reduce gun violence will be successful when those who are commiting the gun violence do not obey the law.

    In my neck 'o the woods, you can carry on County Fair Grounds, but not in any of the buildings. Don't know about the State Fair. I don't handle crowds very well, so usually don't go to the State Fair. OSU Football games are bad enough, but I gotta support my Buckeyes.

    In Georgia, I think the fair would fall under the 16-11-127 "Public gathering" code, and would be a no carry zone for us too. No big deal though, I never go to any of um anyway.

    Sounds like the sign is illegal. The problem I see though is that you can go on the fair grounds, but not inside any of the buildings at the fair.

    Sounds like Oklahomans need to get together and change the laws. WAY too many places are banned.

    Why would you think Ok has good carry laws? It's one of only 7 states that prohibit open carry.

    I just figured with as many people that own firearms in this state that our state govt. would be quite friendly in regards to carry laws. I am finding out more and more that is not the case.

    The way I read it, carry into the buildings is prohibited for conducting business with the public. That makes me think like assessors office, DMV, that kind of thing.

    No, the signs are not illegal. Anyone who owns or controls a property has the right to prohibit firearms on that property, even though the general handgun law permits it.

    It's like a speed limit - you may drive 100 mph, except where prohibited.

    You will find that weapons will be prohibited at an organized public gathering just about anywhere you go.

    You have the conundrum of not carrying and wishing you had or carrying and taking the chance of being caught, along with the applicable penalties. If you need your weapon in a situation, carrying illegally is going to be the least of your worries. I've been to some fairs that I wouldn't go to unless I was armed.

    While I would NEVER advocate anyone break the law - as more and more mess happens in more and more places, the less and less I'm concerned with the pure legalities of carrying.

    From what I understand of our law in MO, if I were to carry inside the area prohibited by such a sign and IF my weapon were to be seen and IF I were to be asked to leave and I obliged....no harm, no foul. If I were asked to leave and I refused....that would be a misdemeaner and $100 fine. Do you have any such caveat in OK law?

    resqr, No we do not have such a provision but that is certainly something I would like to see my state adopt. It is ridiculous to be on the brink of felony over stupid signage. Especially when we as CC holders have gone through considerable expense and hassle to remain within the law. Do they really think that sign is gonna keep johnny gangbanger from bringing his illegally bought piece anywhere he wants to go? It is time for some bombardment of our state representatives.

    I agree with you Byron. Only by speaking up will we be heard and have a chance of making a difference.
