    Frustrated in Texas

So I sent off for my CHL back at the beginning of June. They sent my pictures back for being "too grainy". Not mad at the state for that one, but I'll never use CVS for things like that again! They kept the copy that had a signature of both me and the fingerprinter, and sent back the other. I called before sending in the pictures, asking if I had to get the fingerprinter's signature again. They said no, just sign the new picture and send it in.

In the excitement of getting it back out, I forgot to sign the pics, so they sent them back. Understandable. I sign them, put them back in the mail. Friday I get a letter from the state that they now want my signature as well as the fingerprinter. I called Austin yesterday, and asked if they'd give me the officer's name, as I had mine done at a local police station. They said it didn't have to be the same officer, but just an officer. They told me to have him sign the photo and list his badge number.

I've got a bad feeling I'll be getting my app back in a few weeks when someone else in Austin gives me their opinion of what I should have done instead. Maybe I'll get my plastic before Christmas.
Our kindness may be the most persuasive argument for that which we believe.

    Be patient.

On my third renewal it took 5 months to get my renewed permit.

All on account of Harris County.

Send them what they need. It shows they are processing it at least.

I'm about to apply for my CHL (in TX) since I finally turned 21, and I can say this isn't helping my worries. But now I'll know to triple and quadruple check everything before I mail it in.

This is one reason when shopping for a CHL course instructor one should look at an instructor that does the photos, finger prints, notary, and everything else with the course. If not, you have to take it upon yourself to make sure you doing things as the state requires.

My first class I chose and instructor that left prints, photos ect to me. It went through the first time because I reviewed everything several times. On renewal, I chose an instructor that did everything there. He checked everything, then I checked everything again. Neither time did I have anything returned from the state.

Do your homework, and things work out better in the long run.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

    it took me 120 days.
from the end of May till just last week I got my CHL in the mail.
    no errors on my app.
but i did have an arrest report sent with my app. showing a clean record,
since i was in trouble 30yrs ago , as a youth.

they never return any emails when i asked about progress after 90 days.
or phone calls left on my "Technicians" Voice Mail.

just have to put on the "Patient Pants" and hope for the best.

I was lucky enough to go to a class where they did everything from pics to prints etc...still took 3 months but at least I did not have to re-submit anything.

I was looking at Florida's elgibility requirements, and this is what I came across.

    7. What are the qualifications to be eligible to be issued a Florida CCW Permit?
    • You must be a citizen of the United States. (Born and raised.)
    • You must be 21 years of age or older. (No problem)
    • You must be able to demonstrate competency with a firearm. (How do I prove this to the state?)
    • You must be a non-felon. (No problem.)
    • You must take a recognized Firearm Safety Class given by an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor and get a Certificate of Completion with the instructor's signature and NRA Certification Number on it, OR furnish proof of being Active Military or Honorably Discharged Military (e.g., furnish a DD-214).(This is what I was curious about.)
I added my comments in bold, but basically I was wondering about the classes. If I take the course here in TX, will it be accepted in Florida? Thanks.

i got a utah permit because of the cost and some other factors but now i'm thinking about getting a texas permit also. i found an instructor a while back that teaches the texas and florida classes so i'm going to check with him and see if he still does the florida permits so i can get them both over with at the same time.
