Kimo - I carry a 226 ST SIG so in weight and bulk terms it could as easily be a 1911.
I did think tho when I saw your subject line - "Does anyone carry a full size 1911 as a primary? " - does anyone breathe each day? LOL!! The 1911 following here is huge and I think many are full size or close to it.Has to be probably ''the'' archetypal carry piece nationwide for many.

I didn't even thank about that... and it's been around forever.Originally Posted by P95Carry

I guess I have to check in too. I carry a Springfield Government Model everyday in a Galco Summer Special (an IWB). I've never had a problem either concealing it, or with just plain carry. I think the only time it was ever uncomfortable is on long drives (two plus hours).

I've carried a full size for a lot of years, the trick is in the belt and holster.![]()

Make sure you invest in a good holster that fits and keeps it still. I have several nylon cheapies that are laying around because of listening to idiots about carrying my Colt Gov. Once I started carrying daily, I did buy a IWB Mitch Rosen for it and don't have any issues.
You may have to make some accomodations for the gun in you style of dress, but they aren't major.
Best of luck and enjoy...
I'm 6'1" at 195 and carry a Kimber Custom TLE II. I currently carry my 1911 in an Alessi owb holster and have no problems.
I will be carrying my Para 10mm when the barrel gets here. Check cleared for the work to be done, so it should be on the way.

I’m 5'10" 160lbs, I carry my 1911 in shorts and a tea shirt. It has no print except sometimes when bending over. It helps if you are fit in the waistline IMHO. It’s a bit heavy, and award at first. But you will find yourself carrying it more, and more often as time passes.
I carry a full size Kimber TLE/RL in a Milt Sparks VM II...all day long...
My usual daily carry is a Kimber "Compact Custom" these days....
.45ACP, all steel, 4" slide, "Officer's" frame.
Not exactly full size, but it's a good compromise (they eat recoil springs a little more rapidly than I'd like).
I have a retired (it's not safe to shoot) steel Combat Commander and a Para Tac-Four (double-stack Commander, more or less), that are also good carry guns for me. (6'1", 290#) The extra barrel length and weight of a full-size GM wouldn't bother me at all - one of my first serious concealment guns was a 4" S&W M10HB .38Spl revolver.
(My uniform duty gun a the time was a 6" S&W M19 .357.... Now, that's a big gun....)
When worn with a proper belt & holster (I've been using a Don Hume 726 lately over a 1.5" wide belt I picked up at Quartermasters), none of these 1911's are all that heavy. I can tell if I'm wearing something lighter, but I just don't notice.
'Course, you don't stick an IWB into the waistband of a jogging suit with one of these....

Stu.

I asked the same question on this board last year. Since then, I've been carrying a full size 1911 in an IWB every day. When it gets too warm to wear an undershirt - I switch to pocket carry. I just can't take the grips biting into bare skin.
Weight takes a little getting used to - but quickly gets to the point where you don't mind it.
I carry a SW1911 in a Yacqui Paddle.
