40S&W.. Carry the biggest you can shoot accurately.. You can carry a canon but if you can't hit crap it doesn't matter. Or you can carry a bunch of weak rounds and only P*** the target off.

Accuracy ALWAYS WINS! So carry what you can hit with.

"Caliber" is the diameter of the bullet. What is listed are cartridges.

    Have been following the poll.

Wow. I can understand now why 380 ammo is so scarce and expensive. Even 32 ACP is scarce. But have noticed 38 and 40s coming back.

I know the poll only asks for minimum caliber you'll carry, but it's probably a good indication also of what is actually 'mostly' carried.

To keep from being arrested, at times, a Ruger LCP is all I can carry. In Central Texas, it is warm to hot for 9 months out of the year. I walk around in elastic waste band athletic shorts. Anything heavier would place me in danger of being arrested for indecent exposure!

I admit it. I've carried a .380. My wife's LCP is sometimes too easy to slip in the pocket, sometimes. I'm so ashamed of myself, I've actually even degraded to consider buying my own, so I don't have to ask my wife to use her's.

I have slipped my Tomcat (.32 ACP) in my pocket to "take out the trash", but I generally carry my .44 S&W Special. I DO like my Zastava M70 (in .32 ACP) because of its longer barrel. (It prefers Sellier & Bellot ammunition, because of its higher recoil impulse.)

Awww, no love for the .50 AE in the poll?

Just kidding, for me the smallest I'd carry would be 9mm. I've carried one before, and felt comfortable with it. But currently, I carry and prefer the .40 S&W.

Now if I had to carry a wheelgun, I'd give the nod to .357 as the smallest I'd like to carry, but I have carried a .38 special that my father loaned me a few times many, many years ago.

I am a strong believer that a person should carry the largest caliber that he or she can handle and shoot comfortably.

    9mm/ .38 Special +P at a minimum.

Although since I've acquired a G-30 it's been .45ACP all day, every day.

It all depends on what you can handle. I dont think it makes any sense to carry with less than 9mm but anything even .25 is better than nothing at all. If I could afford a 10mm I'd carry that but for now .45 with 230gr HSTs will have to do
