    Oregon CHL

I succesfully applied for my license through the Douglas County Sheriffs office yesterday and was told I should recieve my license in 3-4 weeks. I will follow up on exactly how long the turn around is for those who are interested.

I plan on carrying my SIG P220 SSE in a Milt Sparks VM2 (roughly 4-5 more months on that) with a Wilderness Tactical Instructor 5 stitch CSM belt. I'm not the largest guy around 5'10" 135lbs. Any suggestions on how I can successfully carry such a large gun? Tips on avoiding printing? Any help would be much appreciated.

Congrats and welcome. Most anything won't print under your gill slit rain gear.

Seriously, you're on the right track with the VMII and an open jacket, sportcoat, or shirt. For deeper concealment I use a tuckable IWB like the Comp Tac Minotaur Spartan, CTAC, and Crossbreed. Delivery times are faster. Eventually you'll be filling up your holster drawer with a Smartcarry, Galco Miami Classic II, ankle, bellyband, and maybe some OWB's.

Hey there fellow Oregonian! Congratulations on your new permit. From your post it would seem that you have the basics of concealed carry well covered. Great gun, great belt, and great IWB holster.

I would suggest that you follow another old axiom that being, "dress to the gun". For me that means that I wear my trousers one size larger to accommodate the pistol; wearing loose fitting (for me always untucked) shirts and using somewhat larger cover garments.

I wear my outfit at 4:00 to 4:30 so as to keep the rig behind the plain of my body which provides great concealment from the front.

It will require some experimentation but with that for starters you should be good to go. Good luck.

OryGunner, do I know you from OCC/OFA?

I just got my VM2, and absolutely love it, BTW.

OR CHL numbers are growing fast...

As to your question, since you aren't among those of us with lapover syndrome, concealment will actually be easier.

With an average build the shoulders are usually considerably wider, allowing the shirt to drape naturally, hiding even larger handguns well.

The larger of us have issues, and wide hips and spare tires push the gun into the shirt, allowing easier printing.

But for you, any IWB should conceal well as long as you don't wear tight clothes...

I'm actually considering applying for a non-resident OR carry permit. Oregon non-permits are only issued to residents of states that border the state of Oregon. Not that I'll ever travel there on a regular basis but it would be nice to have that permit just in case.

Pikachu, might be advantageous to get a Utah CHL.

    Hey OryGunner,

I know you from opencarry and OCC. (I'm GSXRrider on there). I'm about 6' 155lbs. I currently carry a G27 in a UBG canute holster, which is found here UBG Holsters. I would also recommend K & D holsters. I have their thunderbird defender holster for my j-frame, which is very nice. K&D Holsters | Custom Gun Leather and Shooting Accessories. Although both of these are pretty small guns, I find that a sweatshirt works great. Even if the gun were larger.

EDIT: I've heard great things about the VMII, but I can't justify waiting 7 months for a holster. The wait is less than half that with UBG and K&D, and less money.

Thanks to all who replied for the tips and suggestions.
Yes greenLED and porsche4786 I do tend to linger onc these forums, I work 3rd shift and find reading helps pass the night a little quicker. Those look like very nice holsters I may have to investigate further.
