Any way for GA resident to CCW in SC?

I have scanned through the laws, the forums, the handgunlaw.us and as far as I can tell, there is no way for me to legally carry in South Carolina. I live on the state line in Georgia and often have business there so it would be very beneficial to carry.

If I have read properly, SC will only grant a non-resident permit if you still own property in SC but reside in another state. Also, they do not honor any other state non-resident permits.

So, short of buying property in SC which I am obviously not going to do, have I missed anything that would qualify me for a permit?

That stinks SC not honoring GA's permits - especially since right next to each other.

Alabama has reciprocity with all the states we border and much more.

SC does honor several states but GA's not in their list. Anyone know why?

SC requires training to get your CWP. They will not recognize any other state permit that does not require training also. GA does not require training so no reciprocity. SC does not recognize Alabama either.

Correct. Of course that chaps GA's butt, so they refuse to honor the SC CWP (even though SC requires more training). I had to pick up an out-of-state PA permit just so that I can carry 10 miles west of my house .

Yes, SC honors many states permits but only resident permits. They do not honor non-resident permits. Fortunately, my GA license pretty much covers me everywhere else I would normally go except SC. I still haven't found a way to legally carry in SC.

Apply for a New Hampshire permit. It is now $100.00. It will allow you to carry in all southern states execpt Flordia. There is no free lunch any more.

I will state again, SOUTH CAROLINA DOES NOT HONOR NON-RESIDENT PERMITS FROM ANY OTHER STATE.

I also checked and South Carolina is not on the reciprocity list on New Hampshires DOS website anyways.

SC only recognizes resident permits. Fortunately, Va is relatively newly recognized by SC.

Wow. There it is. I had no idea that SC was so hostile towards 48 states.

    Kinda embarrassing...

An effort to remove that "same requirements" failed last year. Along with an attempt to make Reciprocity automatic. The actual reform version that passed was endorsed by some groups here which actual meant nothing at all in the end. SLED still drags its feet approving them and they still have to have the same requirement (the training is the snag on this one). Had the good verison passed it would have been simply "you accept ours and we will accept yours"... automatically. But it failed to pass and I believe partly because we, the CWP community in the state divided and so failed. If we fail to get that done in the future our only real hope is for Georgia to require training. Then we could do business. But so far SC proponents have not been able to get this one done.

The only loophole I am coming up with is still to buy SC real property. I wonder if I could buy a cheap grave plot somewhere and have that qualify.....

Biomortis........tell them you are buying a grave plot but not planning on moving there soon:)
Seriously, my uncle in Ga is having the same problem and as I told him, unless you own property here (SC) you're pretty much out of luck if your state is not honored by SC. We do not accept any non-res permits. I got NH non-res so that I could carry in Ga, AL and Miss.
