I used to carry an appendix carry with a small revolver. That was some years ago when my clothing was different - I don't wear untucked shirts anymore - and my belt size was considerably less. (Ahem.)
The main problem I had was the 'poking' problem. It can get very uncomfortable while seated, especially driving a car. The other problem is relieving one's self in a public restroom. The set up is difficult to conceal and control with one's trousers unzipped or undone. On the other hand, it is very quick to acquire and produce in a pinch.
As far as it pointing at my body, I just don't carry guns that fire on their own. All of life is a compromise. One does not get something for nothing.
On a humorous note, one woman did in fact once ask me the Mae West question, "Is that a gun in your pocket or are you happy to see me?"
I smiled my charming smile and said, "Yes".
