Startled? Yet another reason for yellow.

    Sounds odd eh? I know!

Reason for this is, I observed the classic old trick usually done by kids, of sneaking up on someone with a blown up paper bag - and whacking it to produce a quite healthy ''bang''!!! Funny in controlled ''family'' conditions and highly effective on folks in pure white too.

It is, pure and simple - startling! That reminded me that being startled is not good for us - it provokes a short-term ''fluster'' while we analyze and work out what has occurred ...... end result, time lost for reaction if it is needed - even if only milli seconds.

If in yellow and alert we are probably less prone to this. Just another good reason to keep our wits about us always and keep the odds more in our favor.

Haven't got the link to hand but anyone see that vid clip of folks in a store when someone makes something go ''bang'' - it's hilarious! Way ''over the top'' but makes ya think!

Ahhh - I have it on one of my servers - go fetch if y'ain't seen it

Startled....Don't know exactly how much critical effective reaction time would be lost with most average folks after being badly startled.
More than enough time to get killed though...I reckon.

If I'd been in the store when that happened, I guess I'd have gone straight from condition yellow to condition wet!

Probably the closest thing to that I've experienced was when everybody was stopped at a red light and someone's vehicle backfired. Sounded just like a big shotgun, making my antennae go up! After scanning around, I noticed one embarassed looking guy trying to sink down in the seat of his old pickup.

Question "You'll never hear the one that gets you"

You mean we can't just hurry up & move out of the way (& do a classic Dodge The Bullet) after we hear the BANG...like in the old Westerns?

If today's kids do bullet-dodging, they do it Matrix-style.

Been startled a couple of times in the past year or so and I automatically, and sub-concenously reached for my gun. I was glad to see that I did that, seems the practice pays off.

Try it from pure white; nothing is quite as disconcerting as waking up with a 1911 in your hand, safety off, slack coming out of the trigger, and a good (though still blurry) sight picture on the big shadow in the bedroom window.

Needless to say, the cat got a really long talking-to about the importance of not climbing on the windowscreens.
