Man charged with the murder of a pelham AL police officer had a permit

Phil davis was an aquantance of mine who taught at my school. He was shot and killed on a traffice stop just miles from my house last thursday night. Turns out the man who shot him had a CC license... this is going to start trouble

Please keep us posted. I'd like to know what happened that led this guy to draw on a cop in the first place.

Very unfortunate, but it does show that all CHL holders are not great examples of virtue.

This is a terrible situation and I have sympathy for the family of the victim as well as the family of the shooter (no remorse for the shooter himself).

With regards to how this reflects upon law abiding CC permit holders; potentially, this incident could be twisted to incorrectly vilify all legitimate permit holders. We must be diligent to remind those that would attempt to take away our 2A rights that there will always be individuals with ill intent, bent to injure others in one manner or another. This only reinforces our idea; individuals and the public are better off with trained, permitted CC holders than they are without.

Oh my God. My prayers go to the family of the officer.
This is going to get VERY bad press, and will make ALL LTCF and CCW holders look bad. The actions of few will have reprecussions on many. Once again, my prayers are with the officers family.

My guess is that it's dope related. I'm sure it wasn't over a burned out tail light. And I can say this 'cause I'm not LE but after the outcome is known and all is said, I'm sure there's a 99.99% chance that I wish the cop at least hacked him up a bit, like Hasan was, before he was taken into custody. And yeah, keep us posted, but for now, may he be condemned to Bubba's cell.

That kind of circular logic is ludicrous. The guy that shot Kennedy was a Marine, does that mean that Ohio State Senator Danny R Bubp is going to assassinate Obama? NO!

Sounds like he got fired, then snapped when he got pulled over for speeding. Still, no excuse for doing that.....

Yeah I really hate to see this happen to such a great guy. I use to cut up with the guy and he had a great sense of humor. He has a 5 month old and a 4 or 5 year old and wife. He taught a woman's self defense class. Just a great christian guy.

The unfortunate part is that he left a family behind. Very sad.

    Correct.

It shows that all minus one, are great examples of virtue....As per statistics.

Say that in your lifetime you had stepped on 999,999 cracks/separations/joints across all the various sidewalks you come into contact over the spread of your life.

Now lets say as you went about your normal every day doings you stepped on a sidewalk crack for the one millionth time....And in that immediate your moms back breaks. Literally.

What would you do as toward the next step and the step after that?
Would you then leap to the conclusion that stepping on sidewalk cracks can/does break mothers backs?
Or that every 1M side walk cracks stepped on results in same?

Children learn these things from other children, and they believe them to be true. Fact.
But as we grow older, wiser and more general life aware we come to understand things such as statistics and relevance as in comparison to a whole.

This incident is one negative by one person among literally millions of gun owners across hundreds of thousands if not a million civilian gun owner contacts with law enforcement officers per year.
This incident is statistically insignificant even as very much significantly a persons life was taken away.

This incident does not reflect on me, you and none of us as lawful law abiding gun owners and carriers who yesterday and tomorrow will step on sidewalk cracks while our mothers will suffer no directly attributable ill effects.

Some times people just go mad.
As noted in the article there were no red flags nor reason to think he was anything but an upstanding citizen as his only prior brushes with law had been traffic violations.

Heart felt condolences to his family and friends.

Just because we would like to think that everyone who has a permit is a upstanding citizen, it doesn't work out that way. There are bad apples in every group. All we can do is hope the bad apples are weeded out before they can do something bad. When talking to others and they need to be reminded of that fact.

This is one wierd story. I do not know if there is anymore to say. It just not make any sense. Something is going on here that does not add up but the bottom line is still the fact that if you CC, you had better have your head on straight and your emotions in check.

Sad situtation for the officers family and friends.

There was definately something going on with the pharmacist. Loss of job, mixed up in illegal or pharmaceutical drugs or something that got him off the straight and narrow and into this deal where he willingly took an officers life.

And yes, CHL holders have a much lower rate of criminal offenses than the rest of the population as a whole.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.
