    State Residency

`Twas hoping someone on here would know and be able to help me out.

I live in MI and have a MI CPL. There is a substantial amount of states where I can carry. Now, I'm thinking of moving to GA. If I get a GA permit, I lose quite a few states I can carry in. Especially ones along my route to travel back to see my family in MI.

Can I keep my actual residency in MI and live in another state? How does that work?

Basically once you move to GA and establish a home there, ie. get a GA drivers license, tag your vehicle, work, pay rent, pay taxes, you are no longer a MI resident. Easiest solution is get a GA Firearms License and a non-resident permit form a state that will give you the states you need/want.

A GA permit is honored by TN, KY, IN and MI, which will get you to and from without a problem. A VA non-resident permit will add VA, WV and OH to the list and give you coverage of most of the SE US.

Archer, thanks so much! A non resident permit solves my problem. I've just been lucky to be in MI and not have to deal with it. Just having one is nice. OH was my main concern, as well as VA for I have friends out there.

I don't know if a PA non-resident permit will solve your problem, but it's about one of the fastest to get these days...
