It's always good to hear positive experiences with LEOs. It's amazing how much a little mutual respect can do to change how you view people.

One of those United Socialist States ("May I see your papers, please?") road checks?
Well at least the cop was OK about everything.

Both times I was stopped I was only asked "what kind of handgun?" The HK produced a short conversation but I was never asked to remove.

I always find it humorous when LEO ask "what kind of weapon do you have"

Usually a good question as he/she is probably a gun lover!
I'm all for road checks. You would be amazed at how many drivers blow over .08 at 0900 in the morning. If you are a law abiding citizen you should thank the LEO's for keeping us all safe from drunks, druggies, criminals with outstanding warrants and no DL's.

What is amazing is how fast the system has them back out into the public.

+1 on that.

I got stopped at a roadblock in Simpsonville the day after Thanksgiving.
The LEO didn't ask me to show him my CWP after I mentioned it to him. He was more interested in smelling my breath... which stunk after I ate garlic & onions. He took a deep breath and waived me thru.

FAIL.....id rather have liberty...
I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

That's a load of donkey dung and totally uncalled for. I live in SC and I'm proud of it. FYI, most states do road checks from time to time. You'd be surprised at how many drunk, drugged, unlicensed, and unregistered drivers they catch. Sometimes a wanted man turns up, too. If you've done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear. In fact, a local man jumped a roadblock like that one last night and when captured after a short chase, the car was found to be stolen.
In case you didn't notice, SC did NOT go "socialist" in the past presidential election, but I see YOUR state did.
In my experience, most SC Troopers are professional and polite - and I'm proud of the work they do.
