My wife was pretty anti too, until her and a friend took the NRA First Steps class at our range (I had been pushing it and her friend wanted to go). She came home excited to show me her target and said that her friend's family may join so sometimes I may have to stay home with the kids so they can go shoot. I agree with the statements made here that it is usually ignorance that causes problems. With kids, that ignorance turns into curiosity and can be dangerous. With adults, that ignorance turns to unwarranted fear and can be even more dangerous.

BTW, my kids join me at the range and love it. My son is getting a Jr NRA membership this Christmas.

That should make ANY daddy's heart warm up to the point that the pressure relief valves in his eyes lift, if you get my drift.

What a great Christmas present for a daddy to get. My kids all appreciate having a dad who protects them as well, though all four of them study martial arts with me too!

What a kid! What a story!

    Thanks for sharing it.

These are the types of things that should be used to quell the anti's and their over-reacting fears. You definitely have a great family. Hat's off to you!

That is a great story. It's amazing how when they are young and uninfluenced, they don't see "evil" in the guns, just a tool. I hope my kids will be that reasonable and intelligent when they are old enough.

Thanks guys and gals. She is a special kid, and very smart. When she expressed an interest in hunting, fishing, and shooting I felt it best to "take the mystery out of it" and teach her safe and responsible gun handling. I also practice keeping guns in the safe or cable locked. She knows if she wants to go to the range, she can go with me anytime. She now understands responsible self-defense (and is taking Karate). Her 1 year old little brother will have his hands full. Thanks for all of your sharing of knowledge. This is a great forum and great folks. Have a safe and merry Christmas.
