I joined Defensive Carry to get some help with a trip I'm taking. The wife and I are going to be in Maggie Valley NC and wanted to do some hiking. I've found conflicting advice and justification as to whether or not concealed carry is allowed in the Smoky Mountain Natl Forest. Can anybody offer an answer and supporting evidence? Thanks for the help.
Whew...when I saw "forrest, hiking, and carrying" I thought we were going to have another thread about nudists (not that there's anything wrong with that if it's your thing...more power to ya).
Smokies is a National Park. NO CARRY till Feb 2010. Unload it and lock it in the trunk before you go into the park. CC of anything bigger than a .22 caliber on national forest or gamelands is questionable. Stupid gamelands law. I don't trust officer discretion to allow me to carry.
Check handgunlaw for the other general CC laws. NC has some odd ones that other states have gotten rid of. It's a beautiful area, enjoy yourselves.
+1. No carry in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
